Re: Hot water vent (!!) on steam main
Higher pressures lead to wet steam from the density of the steam being forced out of the boiler which may cause the water line in the boiler to drop lower than usual.
This isn't true, but I liked the rest of your response
Maybe the OP can blur out the offending vent so that it won't be identifiable and will be able to stay private!
Re: Homeowners Versus Contractors
@Jamie Hall that we are.
@trivetman yes the oddness really shines through when we say one thing out of one side of our mouth and do other things with the other side of our mouths; we are a fickle bunch of people- trying to earn people's respect in any way fathomable.

heater comes on-then stops-goes to a countdown-then show firing and then standby. Why is it turning off when heat is called for by thermostat? Doees not happen all the time

Re: Plumbing archaeology
Your getting a lot of sinkers from that job!Exactly! And you never know when a whole section of lead pipe will come in handy. Reminds me of the old murder mystery board game "Clue." Colonel Mustard did it, in the Library, with the Lead Pipe.

Re: Plumbing archaeology
The plumber is coming tomorrow. We'll see what he says. I was hoping we could just pour the concrete floor over everything and call it good for another 20 years, because it's all just drain/waste/vent, no pressure, but I'm guessing the inspector will make us cut out everything back to the cast iron.

Re: Plumbing archaeology
The only trouble with that old lead pipe is... well, there are two. Building inspectors don't like it. But the other is that it sometimes crystallizes and then breaks unpredictably. Ask me how I know...

The Great Holohan Friend and Business consultant, Al Levi said: "The Market will let YOU know when you're prices are too high!" Mad Dog 🐕But not when they are too low! You will be too busy to think about it!
