Re: 3 and 1 1/2 ton finally done
Paul then i would call that a win! That's a good problem
You pumped it in? One Chem sales guy scared me silly years ago, the stuff can be dangerous.

Single Zone mini- labor grabber
two seasoned installers couldn’t get a simple single zone installled in one day😄.
We at least got the ac going— small details and Flair Puck stuff tomorrow
some jobs take time
this is a 1 1/2 story condo, and it’s on slab. This is the 1st floor. Drilling down into this wall was a pain- had to skim a joist (easy now! the joist was sitting on this wall) and pop the the metal “top plate”, and fight a bunch of foam.

Re: Prevent mold in mini-split heads
To add to @pecmsg 's comment, I have a feeling he's talking about keeping the blower wheel clean.
They seem to crud up if they run slow most of the time, running it fast blows the stuff out.

Re: Prevent mold in mini-split heads
Several things have been bothering me on this topic
First, why would a minisplit, or any inverter system not dehumidify well at lower speeds? Wouldn't it be better, if anything? They usually run EEVs, so I'd expect the evaporator to be good and cold especially at lower output levels. I
Next, cooling too fast to dehumidify. I have ZERO experience with water chilled systems etc, I've only worked with small (tiny, relatively speaking) systems with the evaporator directly cooling the air. How can it cool the air without dehumidifying? Even if it does it rapidly, it still had to pull the air through the evaporator which was at a fairly low dew point. If the system moves more air faster, it's still moving X amount of air through the evaporator, typically 350-400 cfm per ton. Honestly, I don't understand and I have not personally seen an oversized system not dehumidify well. I don't get it? Can someone please explain?

Re: tiny droplet leak from the oil tank firomatic shut off valve.
@EdTheHeaterMan Thanks for your wisdom. There is a small drip that lands on that dark spot. I now have a cookie tin over that spot, held down with a rock for counterbalance.
Re: Warm Start Boiler Summer Leak
Of the various options @EdTheHeaterMan listed, I'll pick number two. Mostly since if you keep it warm it doesn't seem to leak. Weil-McClain boilers are very much dependent on correct assembly, and there is a very clear torque specification for the tie rods. It's in the manual. I don't have one handy, but maybe someone has it — and just maybe you do, somewhere in the basement. You should.
It's not uncommon for them to not be torqued adequately, which will lead to leaks when cold. If caught soon enough simply retorquing to spec. may cure the problem.
Re: I'm getting solar panels. I'll let you know how it goes in this discussion thread.
1:1 net metering isn’t sustainable. In solar-mature states it has been ended—even California!
But on the East coast we still have it for now and we get locked in for a number of years.
My personal opinion is that 1:1 was a very good idea to get systems installed to kick start a business that will be and is a major part of our energy supply.
I didn’t mind your post, Matt, except I don’t get hail
Re: I'm getting solar panels. I'll let you know how it goes in this discussion thread.
the energy you generate is likely being used locally, it doesn't use much of the distribution system and it requires less of the higher up parts of the distribution system be used.
i'd argue that the condition of the grid is the mismanagement of the utility they gave money that they did not have to their shareholders, it was money that they needed to use to maintain the infrastructure that makes them money. i see it as no different than taking out a loan, giving it to their shareholders then expecting the customers to repay the loan. in my area they have owned the infrastructure for over 100 years. the sate it is in is their responsibility.
edit: and you complained about my comment about the ai fiction that said tempered glass could crack rather than shatter.
either your post is going to drift in all sorts of directions or it is going to rocket to page 2 and beyond to never be seen again
Re: I'm getting solar panels. I'll let you know how it goes in this discussion thread.
Both of my nieces bought houses in the last 5 years and both had solar installed. 1 in CT & 1 in MA. One house has gas heat and HW. The other house is all electric.
They both are very happy with them at least for now.
Now, @ethicalpaul to make your house really efficient you can rip out the steam and go the heat pump route.😊😊😊😊 LOL
