Re: OLD (1986) 36c84-209 crossover
I refer you to the question I would ask the technicians that worked for me. It happens to be my signature tag line just below this comment.
I had two customers with that gas valve / mercury flame sensor set up. I seem to remember that the three prong Mercury Flame Sensor (MFS) was something that I replaced often on both customers. It seems that the original lasted 30+ years but the replacement MFS were problematic and didn't last very long. I actually remember that one of the MFS failes within one year and the place I purchased it honored the 1 year warranty. they were affiliated with Johnstone Supply at the time so the main office had a policy for that warranty. Today that store is a mom and pop supply house because they didn't have a large enough property to provide the minimum amount of floor / warehouse space and they only had street parking. Bye Bye Johnstone. Hello American Parts co.

I only got 4/8, but I'm just a dumb wholesale rep.
Re: What do you look for in entry level job candidates?
My son had a friend that wanted a job. I ended up giving him one. I asked my son to ask i=him to take a mechanicas aptitude test that has nothing to do with HVAC. it was something that I took when I was hored by someone else. My son looked at the test and thoght it was "Stupid" and never gave him the test. "Any moron would pass that test."
Matthew told me " all you need to do is show me once and I will get it". After one year as a helper doing all kinds of mechanical work for me, I could clearly see that this individual was mechanically clueless.
Here is a short test that you might use:
PS: I just took the test and I got one wrong…. and I answered it correctly at first but I second guessed myself and changed the answer before I hit [Submit]
Re: What do you look for in entry level job candidates?
Neat test. Got them all…
Not sure how to answer the thread question, though. Two very different things, I suppose (I'm thinking of when I hire help around the farm here). How does the person treat machinery? And at least as important, how do they treat the critters? I simply can't afford to hire someone who is hard on machinery — that's both a money thing, but also an attitude thing. And how someone approaches the various critters (both domestic and wild) we have around tells me a whole lot about their overall personality and approach.

Connection from Taco SR501 to RINNAI I-Series combi boiler
I understand the I-series boiler has a switch relay internally for single zone. I have already set up a switch relay and grundfos pump powered separately from my boiler. I have a tekmar smart thermostat already connected to the switch relay. I need to know how to connect my switch relay to the combi boiler. I am thinking the T/T 1 Connection at the boiler to the C and N/O connection at relay but the t/t conn has the three connections C, R and W. Is there a different place in this panel I should connect for call for heat when pump kicks on?
