Re: Snowmelt magician!
Hi Mark and thanks for the video….i will watch it. Well this is the best I could come up with between the builder and concrete contractor. The slab sensor was placed in an area where the concrete is 8” thick so that will help the stairs melt given the long warm up time of the 8” concrete landings. The things we are doing for the uber wealthy is challenging in so many ways.
Re: 3 and 1 1/2 ton finally done
Thanks 😀
Propane boiler got yanked, we patched the foundation, made it look good.
I paid a VideoGuy, he’s been out four times. I’m going to have a two minute video made. I’ll paste it when it’s done in a few weeks.

Re: I'm getting solar panels. I'll let you know how it goes in this discussion thread.
That's where you need to really engineer it out well. For example, instead of matching the solar panel wattage to the inverters capacity, oversize the panels. In my case the panels are 340 watt but the micro inverters are only 300. Yes I loose potential output during the peak. But that only lasts a few hours with stationary panels. And only during the months when the sun is highest in the sky. Having those higher output panels means I have better production numbers in overcast conditions all year but also as the panels age I still maintain the original capacity overall. They really only clip out from about 11:30am to 12:30-1pm.
Another advantage is maintaining output even while the panels are baking. I had to go all the way back to May 9th to find a time when they clipped out this year because of how hot it has been.
3 and 1 1/2 ton finally done
it always amazes me how much time these Geothermal jobs soak up. Anyways, we put the button on this one today.
we mixed some hard stuff, 15%. I felt like I was in a Breaking Bad skit for a moment. I filled the little 1 gallon jug 20 times. 1 gallon per 5 1/2 gallons of water.
till next time 😀

Re: I'm getting solar panels. I'll let you know how it goes in this discussion thread.
Yes I would consider it, but the removal of the incentive in December definitely pushed me over the line in this case.
After the incentives are gone, the price will reduce, so I still may have done it anyway since philosophically I am aligned with solar power and since electricity cost is really going up here in NJ.
I sense a little scorn in your wording regarding incentives. To that I would say there are tax incentives for farming, for fossil fuel production, having children, and innumerable other things so I don't feel guilty at all about taking some of MY tax money back. Thank you!
Re: leaking return line
True… black pipe will rust out faster than copper will corrode, but unless there is some odd circumstance — such as loose weathered mortar falling on it — you should be able to get a century or so out of it.
Re: leaking return line
Do you want to pay to do this twice? Repipe in copper or steel only. The person that suggested CPVC should know better. Mad Dog
Re: leaking return line
@spascuzzi where are you located? Besides for replacing the return, the boiler should have regular maintenance and attention. For the record, replacing the return, should be doable by anyone who knows how to handle pipe. Plumber, steam expert..... Just I would suggest not using the Plastic Man.
Re: A $50,000 Mistake
No relief valve. It’s gravity so it’s open to the atmosphere at my attic expansion tank.
Re: A $50,000 Mistake
Thank you Dan! It is because of this story and your video on the subject I was educated on my own Honeywell generator which is still actively working on my gravity system which has not been converted and I have no plans to.
