Your rule has saved me a lot of time and trouble — and money! — over the years, @DanHolohan . And led me down some fascinating rabbit holes finding out what that widget was and what it was supposed to do… my life is richer for it!

Thank you Dan! It is because of this story and your video on the subject I was educated on my own Honeywell generator which is still actively working on my gravity system which has not been converted and I have no plans to.

I was reading the start of the story and thinking, "Wow, this happened to some one I know third hand." I read a bit more. Hmm, that guy was also called "Jeff" …. https://www.jefftk.com/p/mercury-spill

What's with that plug valve? Is there a relief valve somewhere between the boiler and it?

No relief valve. It’s gravity so it’s open to the atmosphere at my attic expansion tank.

It isn't if this valve is closed, is it?

Columbus Ohio, found one plugged from dirt and rust. removed it and plugged all open holes. called Ohio epa. Came to look at it, air tested basement. arranged to pick it up. no cost because they want it out of the waste stream.
