Re: Insulation for steam pipes in basement
1"wall fiberglass and PVC fitting covers. Buy the thumbtacks with the pvc covers. Thumbtacks have little barbs to hold them in place skip the tape it makes a mess.
Trick: put the thumbtacks in the PVC fitting before you put the fitting on the pipe
Re: Do Energy Kinetics Ascent Boilers require special Thermostats?
Good morning,
The Energy Kinetics Ascent boiler can be controlled by a simple day night programable thermostat or with a Wi-Fi thermostat. Whichever suits you. We do not need special communicating thermostats.

- Where do the valves on the radiant manifold go to?
- I 'm not sure this is the best design but I like to put the HX potable water heat at the bottom of the tank and let the heat rise to the top of the tank until the bottom thermostat shuts off the pump. If needed the 220V top element and thermostat can be there in the event the HX can't keep up and the top of the tank gets cold water that high, while the bottom thermostat keeps operating the HX heated water. The top and bottom thermostats are wired with different voltages and the bottom electric element is abandoned.
- I think the HX flow needs to be reversed on one side for best results
- Need Circulator to move water from Mix to the radiant floor
- Best practice is to pump away from expansion tank for air control
- What is the model number of the thermostatically controlled valves? Are they just regular 24v. electric zone valves?
I think this is close to @hot_rod Bob's first drawing.
I hope this helps.
Re: Professional opinions please
a hydraulic separator is a great option. It gives you air, dirt, magnetic, and hydraulic separation in one device. Quick and simple to pipe.
I added a HX pump, I’m not sure how or when that circuit is operated? Does it just maintain the hw tank temperature?Expansion tank connects at either of the lower sep connections

Re: Type K copper pipe
This is your outside line — perhaps from a well to the house? If so, you'll be a lot happier using polyethylene or other flexible plastic pipe…
Re: Insulation for steam pipes in basement
1" would be your best bet . Use the boots for the fittings , buy a roll of the tape , and order 20% from what ever you figure ..
Its a sightless cost ,but you will feel better ..

Re: Any recommendations for HVAC company to service WSHPs in downtown Brooklyn?
This thread is old, but if you go to Johnstone Supply in Redhook and hang out for half an hour, you'd probably find a few techs who know geo.

Re: Neg subcooling
Glad you found the issues.
Sometimes old tools are better than new shiny tools. It like having a multimeter that doesn't work. If you can't trust it it leads you down the wrong path
Not even looking at the sub cooling if the OA is 87 your liquid saturation can't be below that temp but its 10 degrees less. LL temp of 90 seems low with an 87 OA so the whole high side seems wrong. But you already found the issue
