Re: Texaco FCS boiler
In the Hydronic Rating Handbook, it says Texaco marketed these through their Paragon division. The FC/FCS appears to be a rebranded Dunkirk 13 series. That one had a rating of 1.95 GPH with whatever burner they used at the time, and 595 square feet EDR.
Re: Which boiler ports for adding a tankless heat exchanger to a Williamson GSA-200?
The Williamson has two, 2 1/2" return tappings. Only the one on the left side, shows up in the literature. But the other one is certainly there. Using a WM, with the coil, is certainly simpler, and eliminates the need for an additional circulator.
Re: Looking for a replacement actuator
i found a replacement / alternative Honeywell actuator on Ebay. And it didn't cost my first born either.
Thanks all for your help!
Re: question on boiler "mud leg"
That is the boiler drain. Someone extended it from its original location with those fittings and copper. It is most certainly clogged unless it is opened once a week in that configuration. You may be able to blow the clog back into the boiler to get it to drain by hooking a washing machine hose to you water heater and connecting to that drain. Open water heater drain, then boiler drain. Once it blows through, close boiler drain, then water heater drain. Also make sure the water heater drain is clear before trying this. You dont want to blow sediment from water heater into the boiler. You are then gonna need to drain all the nasty stuff you blew into the boiler out.
Re: question on boiler "mud leg"
The mud leg is an older term. It's just the lowest part of the boiler. If you open the valve, you should get water unless it is plugged.
Re: Recirc or storage tank?
Hi, not sure I'm answering the question, but here goes 🤠 I'd use demand controlled recirc, but keep the recirc loop at 3/4". Use a pump big enough to prime it with hot water quickly. Run this line no more than ten feet from all points of use. Use small branches off the main, like 3/8" where you can… which should be most everything but any tubs. This arrangement gives quick hot water with minimal energy or water waste.

Re: Indirect on warm start boiler
I have an electric water heater. I can shut it off and go away for a week when I come back it is still warm.
Re: Hydrolevel 3250 with a Boiler with a Tankless Coil for DHW
Thanks Ed, it does answer my question(s). When I installed my new boiler at home, the plan was to use cold start, but the thought of expansion/contraction nagged at me.
I have several other projects ahead - selling off some commercial property and doing a full repipe on my house preceding a full kitchen remodel for my bride, but reading yours and other pro's comments here have allayed my concerns cold starting the Intrepid.
Thanks again.

Re: Gorton vents is there a way to test them?
SmartCycle Activation instructions are in this above.
I have the CG400 2090, so mine will always wait to test 20m into a firing, and not before. If you have the 1090 1060, yours will do it only 10 m into the firing.
It was ridiculous until I enabled this feature and made me wish I had gone with the SafGuard model. If you turn off the power to your boiler, on the very first firing afterwards, I believe it tests 10m into the burn. Just a bit of a quirk.
