Re: Tower blow down valve needed
Everyone make them. But as @Steamhead mentioned Belimo is one of the most popular.
Re: Boiler
It's on the very bottom of the tank. The Schrader valve is the same thing that's on your car tire, where you add air to the tire. Take the little cap off the bottom of the gray tank to expose the Schrader valve. Then press the center pin in the Schrader valve with your fingernail or a pen tip and see if water comes out.
Re: It's freezing upstairs
I think this discussion has run its course. Thanks.
@HomerJSmith, I've removed your sexist comment. Those attitudes are not welcome here. Please follow site rules and be respectful.
Re: 2nd zone thermostat/pump wired incorrectly. Is this setup properly to prevent boiler condensation?
You can see ZR,ZC aren't being used in the Hydrostat, so the boiler has no way of knowing the second zone wants heat. Running cold water through the boiler isn't going to help anything, that's for sure. I would install a 2 zone control panel and use the isolated end switch to TT on the Hydrostat. It can be done using the 845A, but it's almost harder.
That's a good boiler when it runs clean. When its dirty, it's a PITA to clean, with those tension plates on top.

Re: Oil Boiler - Constant Reset
It's much more likely that the control is doing its job and locking out the burner for safety. No ignition, poor combustion, unstable flame are some of the reasons why that control would need to be reset. I've never had a burner control lock out when everything was working the way it should.
Re: Boiler with no draft regulator
I assume you are speaking of Oil Burner Tune-Ups. If you can not locate the IO Manual in the rafters, you may be able to locate them on the internet. Do you carry a tablet with internet access with you on service and maintenance calls? You should. You should always have access to the manual of any piece of equipment you work on.
Re: Efficiency of an indirect water heater
Back to the topic
Standby loss, my HeatFlo, it was at 116F at 7:00 pm. At 7:00 am this morning it is at 106F
Sitting in a 67F shop. So the “less than a degree per hour” holds in this application
It is only only connected to a drainback, water drains out, so no potential to thermo siphon heat away

Re: Efficiency of an indirect water heater
We just had to delete several sexist remarks on this discussion. It's stunning to see how a discussion about water heater efficiency can lead to sexist stereotypes and a "joke" about violence against women. These attitudes are toxic and not welcome here. You're better than this. Follow site rules and be respectful of others.
Re: Boiler
Since the DHW coil in the boiler will probably still have water in it I don't see a problem. I'm thinking the leaking valve is a temperature and pressure valve like on a hot water tank, not sure if it is even needed, the boiler's manual diagram does not even show it. Maybe it is the wrong valve for the application and that is why it failed.
