Oil Boiler - Constant Reset

Hello all,

Here are the stats of my system.
Boiler: Well McLain 68 Oil

Aquastat: Honeywell L8148J1009

Burner Control: Honeywell R8184G4009

The issue I am having is as follows.

Home thermostat is calling for heat, circulator pump is running (only 1 zone) but boiler not kicking on. Boiler kicks on once I hit the reset on the burner control, sometimes it stays on for 20 seconds, kicks off and reset hit again. Boiler seems to run fine until there is a long gap between boiler calling for heat again, above process then starts again…

Boiler is running fantastic.

Looking to see if this is an easy or if this may be an aquastat issue…

    Its not an aquastat issue. The burner is shutting off on safety. You need a oil burner tech to find out why. It could be caused by numerous different things.

    @JYando When you call for the tech tell them you have no heat, because you don't. The heating companies like to answer no heat calls first.

    The burner tripping safety means you have a burner problem. Could be ignition, could be fuel could be a bad control.

    When was the last time it was serviced?

    Best bet is calling your service tech

    Why do you thunk the boiler the boiler is running "fantastic", when it obviously isn't?

    When was the last time the burner was serviced? It should be done every year, along with smoke and combustion tests. Are you new to oil heat?

    I guess Fantastic can be translated to needs occasional resetting.

    The best operations is after you have the normal maintenance completed, you do not need to pay any attention to the burner operation for any reason during the course of a heating season. I guess you would call that operation Phenomenal. You should strive for Phenomenal. Fantastic is just unacceptable by your definition in our world of OilHeat.

    After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

    Thanks for some of the wonderful comments you usually encounter on these forums. I’ll get a service call in again, been serviced by very reputable company. (Cue the “must not be very reputable” comments).

    Just was looking for some insight if anyone has seen something similar as it seems to be a control issue.

    It's much more likely that the control is doing its job and locking out the burner for safety. No ignition, poor combustion, unstable flame are some of the reasons why that control would need to be reset. I've never had a burner control lock out when everything was working the way it should.
