Re: Cleaning a 130-year-old hydronic system before new boiler install - was it worth the 30+ hours?
Rust never sleeps , my friend! If O2 is getting in, and it is, corrosion will continue
If your boiler treatment has an oxygen scavenger ingredient, that will help. But it needs to be boosted from time to time.
Either a combination device, or two separates
Air removal is usually supply out if the boiler
Mag and dirt on the return side.
Can’t go wrong with Caleffi products. We pioneered the various separation devices, especially hydraulic and magnetic

Re: Manual J Heat Loss Calculation
I would also include the EDR calculation with the boiler manufacturer's recommendation for sizing according to the EDR. Just in case you actually need a 4 section boiler to get it to operate properly without being undersized (and the inspector will only approve a 3 section boiler that more closely matches the building load.) Unlikely but power can be intoxicating.
OR
You can always make the manual J come out to the BTU that you need it to, by increasing the infiltration number to 2 or 3 air changes per hour. You won't believe how that increases the load calculation numbers.
Re: Radiator Fitting
It might be easiest to just get another 1 1/2" valve to do the job in the place of the 90 ell.
We assume that this is hot water…..not steam?

Re: DIY questions tuning up my furnace
You need a combustion analyzer and to know how to use it to change the nozzle as well as how to adjust the burner. It isn't a DIY project.
Re: Manual J Heat Loss Calculation
Don't sweat it. Make good general estimates of al that sort of thing — no need to get carried away. Remember too that this Manual J is for the building code folks — since this is steam, you are going to size the boiler to the radiation anyway, not the building heat loss.
Re: Main vent making loud noises
I would say that is not normal, my Big Mouth is petty quiet last I checked it. Maybe the 'O' ring needs replacing.
Re: Main vent making loud noises
I'm gonna guess it's not the bigmouth, but the main dragging itself across a support or hanger somewhere as the main expands, or contracts, find the binding spot and slip in a piece of milk carton plastic to allow for a slipp
Re: Tekmar 360 Control- Assistance Needed
I usea small stainless hose clamp. Yes insulation over it. A chunk of fiberglass even if you don't have pipe insulation.
The tekmar sensors have a small dish groove in the sensor so they fasten to pipe well.
You can change and adapt if the system doesn't do exactly what you want the first attempt.
Write down the settings as you make them to keep track of what change makes what difference.
I imagine many controls go in with factor default settings, no one comes back to fine tune it to the exact application. So for the homeowner to learn settings and adjustments really maximizes what the control can do for you.
I just bought an EV truck, it may take the rest of my life to figure out all the settings and options, which they update on a weekly basis!

Re: 24 Volt transformer blowing
Can you trace visually along the problem wire and find where it is damaged and shorting?
