Re: Experience I had with a boiler tech and what I learned along the way.
Don't know what your CO2 is but it should be around 8%. Looking at your O2 your are probably OK. Looks like a Crane boiler with the old CI burners.
In the 5th picture down the burner air shutters look closed. I assume this was a B4 picture??
Sad that you couldn't get a professional to even try and fix this.
Unfortunately, it is the times we live in.

Michigan. They could have just brushed my boiler and made probably a grand or so then would have also had my business for the aquastat I just replaced but instead I'll just get help from the fine people on sites like this and do it my self.

Re: Another Honeywell Heat Generator
that is sort of like calling an abatement company to remove a toaster that has asbestos in it instead of just carrying it outside.
or in this case plugging the tapings and carrying it outside.

Re: Another Honeywell Heat Generator
Aren't those supposed to be at the bottom of the system? 🤔
Re: Loud radiators - first “shoulder season” night
ok I’ll play with the pitch for the gurgling one
The rest I assume the metallic ticking is thermal expansion and not much I can do there

Most techs don't know the system at all,

Re: Advice on a solution to leaking radiator; painting a previously painted cast iron radiator
There are plenty for sale on CraigsList or Facebook Marketplace. Maybe you can find one matching the size you need locally or near buy.
The one you have there is nothing special. And the cost to make it smaller is probably more than it's worth.
They usually sell fairly cheaply. Unless you can do your own work, you'll have to find someone knowledgeable to handle and install it.
If you'd like to keep the one you have, see if the "rebuilder of radiators" knows someone who will handle its delivery and installation. That's not a very big or heavy radiator as radiators go for someone familiar with these things.
Re: Furnace playing games
@JWeis I wasn't trying to be sarcastic or judgemental about your repairs. I'm just trying to explain to you how the R8184 is highly inferior to the R7284U. I apologize if my posts seemed that way. You have a lot to gain and nothing to lose by installing the R7284U. A shorter trial for ignition makes the burner safer to operate, interrupted ignition will save your ignition components from unnecessary wear and tear. And the built in diagnostic features will help make troubleshooting the burner a lot easier in the future.
By the way I work on plenty of Armstrong furnaces like yours.
Re: Another Honeywell Heat Generator
Mine is still active but since this one has already been decommissioned, and in an attic space, I would leave well enough alone. It will not cause any harm. However, if the homeowner does ask you to remove it, make sure not to tip it over or all the mercury inside will spill out and you will have a serious situation on hand. Let the customer know this as well.
