Re: 1933 Burnham Boiler - Questions and Potential Replacement
You don't need to know anything about that old boiler to replace it with a new boiler. You need to find out how much equivalent direct radiation is connected to that old burnham. With that info, you can select the proper replacement boiler
Re: boiler replacment opinion on the West Coast
Viessman is considered top of the line if you have someone who knows how to service them. To me tankless water heaters are problematic.
Re: Which Wall Hung Boiler?
You need a heat loss calc as @HVACNUT mentioned. I would say an 80K boiler would do the job.. Why put in more than you need it is just more expense and the smaller boiler will work better. I used a 50K output in my 1100 sq foot house brick stone and cement block with no wall insulation. I doubt you need a 100k with your insulation and windows.
Although a Heat loss is best you can add up the output of you baseboard to get close I doubt you have over 80K of basebord.
You don't install a boiler with an output larger than the baseboard can output.
Re: Heat Pump Cooling Not Working
You'll read 24 volts across R and Y when testing at the thermostat sub base if the system is powered and the transformer and fuse is good. Y will read as Common coming through the contactor coil.

Re: Radiator jacks
Now someone has to start making those iron hex foot raisers in 1" intervals that American Standard produced in the 1920s.
Re: Buderus Hardware Help
Why do you want to do this?
Choosing a tankless water heater over a boiler with an indirect would be a mistake. I doubt that it would save much, if any, and would require a lot of maintenance. It’s also extremely difficult to find anyone that knows how to repair them when they break - which is far more frequent than a cast iron boiler with an indirect. So, what little you save on fuel will be far less than what you pay in maintenance and repairs. Not to mention the cost of installing one.
Don’t believe all the hype about huge energy savings with one. Testing has shown that they only saved $36 a year on average over a conventional water heater.

Re: Any idea for this radiator hookup?
Try using these fittings. Configure these to your liking.

Re: The Glycol Myth Why your pipes may freeze anyway
Many have pressurized tanks that are not open.

To All, you do not need documents to know that an 8 percent reduction will cause AC units and other equipment to to fail. Ask the people in my community. Just think about it. If you have a normal reduction in voltage that occurs during the summer, lets say just 4 volts, then you add a reduction of 8 percent, which is about 9 volts. What do you have?
