Re: How to delete boiler coil and replace it with a HPWH
Upper blue valve looks like cold supply, that goes to tank C.
The copper tube going vertically behind the brass reducing valve looks like hot to building. That connects to H on tank.
Expansion tank goes on cold feed. Piping examples are usually included in the box with the tank
Run a hot water faucet and put your hands on the pipes to see which gets cold, which gets hot, to confirm.

Re: New House, New Problems- Introduction and seeking help on new to me steam
1 radiator in particular, 2nd Floor Bedroom 2(the smallest radiator in the system), gurgles like crazy. Sounds like boiling water in the wall and at the radiator itself. This starts once it heats up. The last rad in the system, 1st floor entry, eventually does the same thing but it takes a bit longer. Working on installing the Gorton #2 and hopefully that will alleviate this problem.
It probably won't help. You likely have a sagging steam supply pipe leading to that radiator that is holding some condensate after the heating cycle ends. Ideally, all the pipes are pitched in a way that all the condensate drains back to the boiler. When the next call for heat starts, the steam has to heat up all this sitting water and will cause knocking, or gurgling, or both.
The numbers at the bottom of this image below are your "net square feet of steam" which is equivalent to EDR, which is the total square feet of exposed radiator surface in your home. The short answer is your home is tiny and you should have used the 75k boiler because its "sq ft of steam" value more closely matches your actual radiation of 230. Unfortunately it's very very common to have an oversized boiler. Yours is a lot less oversized than some we see around here. It will work, it just may so-called "short cycle" a little more than you'd like. You can minimize it by not turning down your thermostat at night or when you are away from the house for less than a day.
Re: Corroded return pipe
I don't claim to know the reason, but it is common to get corrosion where the return water, make up water and hot boiler water meet.
I have seen this many times
Re: Makeup water causing boiler failure due to thermal shock
Not really. The gas valve locked open as a result of the electrical event keeps fuel going. That same electrical event on an oil burner would stop the fuel from pumping from the tank to the combustion chamber.
Re: DC-GCVC960603BN Direct Comfort by Goodman blowing backwards
Furnace installed backwards?
If the blower motor were turning backwards, there would be very little air movement, but it would still be in the right direction.

Re: Homemade Radiator?
Not a crazy idea at all. Some commercial hot water baseboard contains one, two or three rows of element (pipe with fins).
Re: Want to add water to increase boiler system pressure but stumped
while the pressure is as low as it is,
check the expansion tank air pressure, and check no water comes from the schrader valve, set the air pressure to 12, 14-15, that you want your water fill pressure to be,
check the tank before you add water pressure to the system.
Re: Want to add water to increase boiler system pressure but stumped
It seems like you should get someone on site who is familiar with general hydronic heating systems. A professional willing to explain things while doing things like filling the system and bleeding air out is preferred. Or even another homeowner who has a boiler and hydronic heat, and is very familiar with their system. You are asking questions that are very basic and if you genuinely want to learn you should have someone on site helping you understand the basic principles and the devices on the system.
Re: Help with a hot water fed home radiant heat system
picture would help
Im envisioning auto air vents, the chromed parts and some sort of remote thermostatic valve with a long cap tube
Any brand names on the parts?
If the system has a small leak, and fresh water keeps entering, that can corrode ferrous parts, like an expansion tank, quickly
Just some wild guesses

Re: Makeup water causing boiler failure due to thermal shock
but if it were oil only the burner would have stopped when the power went out.
