@mattmia2 LOL true but it did solve a problem of steam in the boiler room thanks
Re: leaking return line
@spascuzzi where are you located? Besides for replacing the return, the boiler should have regular maintenance and attention. For the record, replacing the return, should be doable by anyone who knows how to handle pipe. Plumber, steam expert..... Just I would suggest not using the Plastic Man.
Re: Trane xv18 communicating
What pressure is dropping? The refrigerant pressure?? Is it low on charge.
Re: PTAC Air conditioner Blower fan hitting cover
Not a bad temporary fix — also known as a kludge — but it would be wise to find out what has failed or bent or rusted away or otherwise changed from the original intention — since it didn't do that when it was new — and fix that correctly. Might also be a worn or broken mount for the fan or the motor — or both — or less likely sufficiently worn bearings to allow the fan to move…
Re: Which New Analyzer?
I'm underimpressed with my UEi. I have the old style, the cost to cal is on par with the purchase price of one of their current low-end models. Really disappointed.
Re: Thoughts on brass bushings and plugs
Check to make sure your radiators will work with HW, otherwise you will have to replace them.
Also, make sure they will provide enough heat on HW. On steam, each square foot EDR will give off 240 BTU; on HW, only 150 BTU.
And since HW runs at pressures maybe 10 times higher than steam, converting them might make them leak.
Several reasons we don't convert steam to HW.
Re: Thoughts on brass bushings and plugs
And why, oh why, would you be wanting to ditch the steam for hot water? If the old steam boiler gives out — replace it. And in the meantime do the minor repairs to bring your steam system up to snuff.
You'll be a lot happier… and will spend about half as much money…

outdated? i don't think there was ever time that it was the right solution to a problem…
