Re: Steam Boiler Side Outlet type..... What was your experience with it?
Utica uses side outlets, and some do not like it for that reason. But if piped right and skimmed (like any other boiler) they work.
Re: boiler can't reach the temperature
if the boiler reaches temperature and shuts down, then you have a circulation issue.
Bad pump or control that starts it
Air lock
Plugged strainer
Frozen pipes
Can you read the pressure on the lowers scale? should be 12 psi or more.
If the gauge works.

Re: Boiler making a 'churning' noise when firing
that control looks fine. Could be a bad gauge

Re: After two heating seasons freezing point of radiant heat system has gotten lower
a refractometer will work for both, just need a different scale for ethylene vs propylene glycol.
Re: Service for an old HydroTherm HC125B boiler in Westchester County NY
You've been dealing with salesmen rather than techs. Where in Westchester County are you located? We might know someone………..
Re: B+G Circ Pump making noise, coupler fine, bearing feels smooth
See, you dont want to fix it. Its a hobby. A wet rotor circulator should've gone in 6 days ago. And no heat the whole time? If the place is vacant, or there's another heat source, ok. But if the place is occupied with no alternate heat source... why?

Re: Small Delta-T hydronic system
The question I would start with is, has it ever worked satisfactorily? If the answer is yes, let's focus on what has changed since it last worked. If no, that's a little trickier, we're looking at some sort of design issue.
The heat output of a radiator is given by the flow times the temperature drop. If the heat output is less than what is wanted, either the flow or the temperature drop has to increase. Generally, to increase the temperature drop you have to increase the water temperature.
If it worked at one time, my first suspicion would be flow has become diverted or obstructed. I would make sure the system was free of air before checking anything else.
Re: Should I add Cold air returns?
@Pumpguy You have to be cautious about returns in the furnace room. They (inspectors) don't usually go for that as it can mess with the combustion air
