Re: I said "what???"
It is called joist bay heating. Uponor still has a method in their design guide using bare Pex tube in the joist bay. Suspend the tube an inch below the floor.
UltraFin is an aluminum convectors that snaps on Pex tube to increase convection. Either these or the fin tube can work fine
the fin tube is probable even better than these two options for getting the energy from the tube to the joist bay. Generally 140f and higher SWT required

Re: Prevent mold in mini-split heads
I've never heard anywhere except here that an inverter mini split NEEDS to run at 100% capacity. Everything I have ever learned about them says they are more efficient at lower loads, and they tend to run better if they coast along at low loads, rather than full load (this is manufacturer training, and engineers telling me this). Obviously if your low turndown capacity is larger than the internal load you will end up short cycling which isn't good. But can you explain why an inverter mini split needs to run at full load?
Re: Mini Split Location
The several cassettes I know of use a slinger-style pump that'll give you up to IIRC 26" of lift, then they're supposed to gravity drain from there. They'll easily lift to a Little Giant sitting on top of the cassette. More than that, not so much.
Re: Prevent mold in mini-split heads
I have installed a few of the wall mounted units in my day, Never needed a pump unless the unit was in a basement without a proper place to drain the condensate. Then I would add a condensate pump like the one you might use for an air handler in the basement with the same problem.
The drain pan (violet) is gravity drained in most cases.
Re: Prevent mold in mini-split heads
I've never seen a minisplit that collects water? The ceiling cassettes do but as far as I know they're uncommon.
All of the ones I've installed had a hose that runs directly outside and drains freely by gravity.

Re: Warm Start Boiler Summer Leak
is it leaking or is that condensation? doe it actually fire? if it fires only to 90 it is going to condense.
Re: Warm Start Boiler Summer Leak
Shut the boiler off completely and see if there is still a leak. That will eliminate the flue gas condensation issue. If it still has water on the floor after a week of being off then…
There are three possibilities.
- You have a leaking boiler and the higher temperature stops the leak when the metal expands to 130°. You just need to spend more on fuel
- You have a leaking boiler that can be repaired by torquing up on the connecting rods when the boiler is cold. If that stops the leak, then you can make it a cold start boiler. 90° is not such a good idea, wastes less fuel but may cause condensation of flue gas.
- You have a leaking boiler and you can get a warranty replacement block on the ten year old boiler for free. Weil McLain will not pay for the labor to remove the leaking boiler or to install the replacement boiler.
Re: Warm Start Boiler Summer Leak
Thanks that makes sense! I can turn it off for a week and see what happens - I guess that would eliminate the condensation possibility and narrow it down if I do indeed have a leak.
