Re: Viessmann Disappointment
I really think the owner is barking up the wrong tree.
Is Viessmann guilty of not following up on a complaint? Sure, I guess so..
Keep in mind, there is nothing wrong with the product.
If you hired a company to install an appliance for you and they damaged it or installed it incorrectly would you be calling the president of Maytag, leave them a voicemail and complain that they did not call you back?
Where is the installer in all this?
The OP has an issue with a contractor that they hired.
Rather than hold the installer accountable he is blaming the manufacture who has done nothing wrong other than selling boiler to installers just like every other manufacture.
Why isn't the post titled "Perry Disappointment"?
Sorry, I just don't get it...

Re: Viessmann Disappointment
Of course if more manufacturers would monitor HeatingHelp they could avoid or at least de-escalate situations like this.
A simple, quick, polite phone call goes a long way still.

I don't know? If I'm a good salesman, I'm as atypical as they come. Not once, never, have I asked for the sale. I never want to be that guy.Nothing happens until a sale is made, period.
Nobody in the entire chain makes a dollar if you get a no from the customer.
Somehow Stephen you are a much better salesperson than you believe yourself to be.
Listening to Richard T up above, if 99% of your market is forced air, and you are making a living in hydronics, you ARE a good salesperson.
There are many styles of sales, presenting the facts, your systems features and benefits, and then not talking is a powerful sales skill.

Leaking Utica UB-90 Update
I have some great news to share and a few people to thank. Last winter I developed a crack in my 7 yr. old UB-90 and nursed it through a very cold winter by applying many different kinds of epoxy, many different times because none held for any great length of time.
I contacted Utica through Wallington Plumbing Supply, Wallington, NJ and started a warranty process that I have to be honest I really did not think was going to go anywhere - boy, was I wrong .
Utica approved the warranty request and I know we are not supposed to discuss pricing but let me just say I was very pleased with what they gave me in a check - on a 7 yr. old boiler.
Next, I sought out Rich McGrath and John Langan from Langan's Plumbing, Howell, NJ after reading and agreeing with many of their posts on Heatinghelp.com. I decided to stay with a Utica boiler, specifically an SSC-75 so I hired Rich & John to provide me with a heatloss calculation, drawing (basic flow diagram), material list and provide a startup visit - basically as consultants and I would do the installation.
Rich and John went above and beyond what I requested - they were always available to answer any questions I had and even stopped by to check on my progress.
Startup was completed yesterday and everything is working great. My favorite part is how quiet this system is in comparison to the old system,
Please note finishing touches are not complete - I have placards on order for Supply, Return, domestic water, natural gas pipes etc. I also am trying to located a high heat clear spray paint that won't discolor (darken) once heated. Need a new condensate pump and clean the diamond plate.
So once again I would like to thank Rich and John from Langan's Plumbing & Heating, Todd from ECR and Utica in general for standing behind their equipment and Tom Lynch from Wallington Plumbing Supply, Wallington, NJ.

Re: Viessmann Disappointment
Once he hired the "professional", every aspect of that job became the professionals responsibility. If the homeowner must pull the permit, the professional should have made that clear to the homeowner, and work should not have proceeded until the permit was in place. He is the victim.

Re: I have a bumble bee in my bonnet - SOLVED
Steve, the new VT 2218 is a completely new generation of our Delta T circs. We took the "lessons learned" from Bee and redesigned the new circ with updates to address these.
Drop me a E Mail @ stetho@tacocomfort.com. I will arrange to have your Bee replaced with the new VT 2218 - and request you send me your Bee for analysis.
Sorry to here of your issues - we will make it right.

Re: Bosch Greenstar Combi floor mount
The GreenStar, or any mod/con boiler, is an excellent match for an old gravity system. The added mass of the C.I. Rads and large pipes acts as a buffer to eliminate short cycling - the greatest cause of pre-mature boiler failure.
Send that "contractor" packing, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Re: Navien Combi vs Lochinvar with indirect -- updated opinions?
WHN-055 would be my choice there.
Navien has replaced their boiler line three times in something like five years? I can't sell or support anything that moves that fast.

Re: I think I saw Icesailor back!
I thought the same.
I think he's still pretty active on a few other forums...I think I spotted him several times on 'Disqus'... Same name, same writing style, same general attitude (I think). I believe it's him due to the prolific writing style and sheer number of posts, but I could be wrong.
Wish he'd come back. I enjoy reading his stuff.

Re: Insufficient flow in radiant system (air removed via purge cart) looking for reasons?
Why not just replace the mixing valve with one appropriate for your system.
A properly sized Taco I series valve would give you Outdoor Reset and boiler condensate protection without the flow penalty you have now.
Your problem is not that you have a mixing valve, you just need one that is designed for your application.
