Re: Importance of outdoor temp sensor for reset on Viessmann Vitodens B1KE-120 ?
Outdoor restes are not intuitive to the heat loss of the building. Thay are a close second, but not as intuitive as modern indoor resets.

Re: Boiler pilot and main burners going out
Here's the answer to all your problems. Its the aquastat. Bang. No if you're getting 24v to the valve, it should open no matter what. Sorry you have ANOTHER bad valve
Re: Venting - What's code?
So if the house requires a 3" sewer leaving the building ...
Here, the minimum size sewer is 4".I once installed a drain from a sink in the garage and used 2" cast iron pipe to run twenty feet to the sewer. The inspector made me change it to 4".

It's not my faultreggi said:ChrisJ said:It certainly did on mine.EBEBRATT-Ed said:The weight of the water in the pigtail has no effect on the gauge reading if the gauge is above the boiler tapping
So much I stopped using one on the actual gauge I use. In fact if it kept skewing a 3 psi gauge I imagine it would destroy a 2" magnehelic.
Or at least make it totally useless.Lol 😅 .. you're the first person I thought of when I read this post... It's like you have RADAR when this comes up, 😉ChrisJ said:It certainly did on mine.EBEBRATT-Ed said:The weight of the water in the pigtail has no effect on the gauge reading if the gauge is above the boiler tapping

Re: Where do I start?
We've heard of them... usually from folks wondering how to fix the problems.I see a company Radiantec https://www.radiantec.com/ they seem to sell DIY kits etc. Have you ever heard of them?hot_rod said:If you have the house plan, send it to one of the tubing manufacturers for a heat load and design. They may send it along to a wholesaler or rep for the area.
Have them do an cooling load also.
Don't consider radiant without a proper design.
Asheville area by chance? There are knowledgable wholesalers and hydronic/ steam guys down there.
Rehau, Uponor, Viega, Mr Pex, Watts, for pex brands. Their website would tell how to submit house plans to get a design done.

Re: Old Boiler Dating
Dating old boilers? I would definitely consider dating younger boilers. Sure, they won't last nearly as long. But maintenance should be much easier. Only the grey haired, mature gentlemen, have the necessary know how to maintain those old girls.(groan)
Re: Make it work....
You can also store, brooms, mops, New York Magazine & National Geographic behind that toilet! Mad Dog 🐕You could store 10 years worth of McMaster Carr catalogs behind that toilet.....
Or a spare TH400 / 4L80E.
