Re: planning for possible future air-to-water heat pump with hydronic baseboards
Is running a monobloc on straight water something that is seriously suggested by climate activists?
Please don’t make this about politics. We can agree that a mono block doesn’t make sense with glycol in freeze prone places without torching another thread. Re: Are there seriously no leveling shims I can just buy?
Hey @Chris You can offer to paint them to match for a price. I prefer sky blue pink. LOLYou can usually paint the printed parts, but I try to print whatever color is best without painting it.

Maybe mix some purple and red in there?

Re: Making Radiator Pedestals
Luck Problems:
You are fortunate to have that resolution to that problem.
Mine usually goes like this.
I get a call from a "customer" who has bought ceramic floor tile for his second floor bathrooms. After I had taken out the radiators so they could paint behind them. Then, after buying the tile from the local big box tile center, arrangements had been made to tile the floor. 1/2" Durock Tile Board and tile just raised the floor at least 3/4". Now, the radiator is 3/4"+ above the union connections. Oh, and I forgot to mention that while the radiators were out, the painter removed all the plumbing fixtures and tiled over the closet flanges and the carpenter covered over the sink drains when he covered the walls with decorative bead board.
"We're all set for you to put things back."
Someone sold you a big batch of tile and now, your bathroom (on the second floor) is unusable. The radiators can not be reconnected because the only way to extend that 1 1/2" steel pipe is to remove the ceiling below and HOPE I can get it apart.
The closet flanges are below the floor and need to be addressed. Maybe rip up the new floor or the ceilings below. The drains on the Pedestal Lavs may be in the wrong place and can not be connected. I don't have time for this crap. I should have been in some loop to add my expertise to the job. That guy that your contractor mentioned that does work for him on the side and charges $65.00 per hour and you could save money? Call him. He's a lot smarter than I am. And get someone from the big orange box store to install your fixtures.
They built boxes around the radiators I am told.

Re: Another acquisition: ASC acquires Ward
Great acquisition by a very respected company. They have made many acquisitions in the past few years and have done a great job with each. They have always been committed to American made products and I have no doubts they will integrate this newest acquisition into their product offering quite well.

Re: AOSmith Cyclone dry fire alert
I will take a stab at this one:
I believe this was a test that occurred a little over 12 and a half hours before you arrived to take that picture. The test was a success. The test took about 5 seconds. And the test will only happen during the first heating cycle. Also if you wanted more information about this, you should have scrolled down before you cycled the power off and cleared this alert.
I think that pretty much sums it up
Hope you find this helpful

Re: 100 years ago today-- heating fuel choices
I like that this advertisement indicates that the Kerosene is more expensive that coal. They are making the case that there will be less work in keeping the home warm "practically no attention" means no coal shoveling, then there is no ash to clean out each week, and there is no smoke or soot.
Another disadvantage is the need to use electricity.
Times were simpler then.
For being simpler a whole lot of basic things sure seemed a lot harder.
Like going poo at 2AM during a thunderstorm.
Or washing laundry, or for that matter your self.

Re: Light weight aircrete ...
Are you trying to reduce the weight of the mix? Or just reduce the conductivity?
They can add an air entrainment at the redimix plant, or you could add it to a home batch

Re: Newbie looking for (re)design guidance and troubleshooting
Oddly enough -- and perhaps counterintuitively -- so long as your velocities aren't outrageous whether the primary flow is straight through the two Ts, or into the legs of both Ts -- or (and this is where it gets weird) one side one way and the other the other won't make much difference. The orientation will change the head loss, but not that much.
That said -- do it neatly. Nothing looks worse than a plumbing job which looks like the installer was high or drunk...
