Re: Dryer in a laundry closet with little clearance
Although it sounds like you got it figured, I’ll post for other reader. Building a dry box is simple and allows for the dryer to be just a couple inches off wall. Be sure to plan for access to remove dryer at later date
From inside the box you can go up/down/left or right.

Re: need help on boiler cleaning
Great Idea with the street 90°. Then Of Course you will need the camera on a probe to see if you have all the build up removed. I think my Gastro-Intestinal doctor has an extra one if you need it.
Re: Can my vintage boiler wiring be updated to modern wiring?
Deserve… I thrive on this type of stuff.
Thanks for your support Chris

Can we get over the knife switch we all knew exactly what he meant. This is like guys arguing motor vs engine.
Ed of all people doesn't deserve this.

Re: A word about Design Day and not-so-warm homes.
He's got a steam system, so it's easy enough to put a steam radiator in the dog house and valve it off in the basement, just make sure it drains good enough.
Perfect solution.

Re: Can my vintage boiler wiring be updated to modern wiring?
So the consensus is that once you take the parts of a knife switch and place it inside of an enclosure, put a bar on it so you can operate the knife portion from outside the enclosure, then it is no longer a knife switch.
I'm glad to know this now. I will include this in a chapter of my book called “Scheight that don't make sense”. I would not want to have anything false in my publication. I will certainly be selling copies of my book in the paddle store I plan on opening at the top of Scheight’s Creek. I hear there are lots of folks up there without paddles. I should make a fortune selling paddles there. Another business opportunity for anyone keeping score.
Re: Dryer in a laundry closet with little clearance
LOL. I did pull it up the cellar stairs while she was gone to NH to visit her grand kids. I started on it the second she cleared the front door.
I had to put a 5/8 threaded rod with an eye bolt on it through the closet wall so I could use a come-a-long.
When she got home the wall was already patched. I did show her some pics. The only downside was I couldn't get it out of the condo by myself so she had to look at the water heater sitting in the kitchen for two days until my brother showed up😎🤥
Re: Can my vintage boiler wiring be updated to modern wiring?
I knew what Ed meant. IMO Safety switches commonly use knife switch 'type' switches for the disconnect means. I suppose in the case of this boiler, it is a safety switch with fuses, since the switch is enclosed and close to the appliance.
In modern times they usually do not open the Neutral, and the Neutral is not fused.
@ChrisJ three phase disconnect ??? How about Hot, Neutral and Ground wires ? Just Joking.
