Re: "Yelp"/ angi list for contractors.
sounds like maybe letting the credit bureaus handle that might be the way to go, if you develop your own list it seems like it would open you up to a lot of liability

What Am I Working On? An abbreviated photo dump of the month's activities.
Troubleshooting and writing proposals is how I spend most of my time. The toughest part of it is switching gears several times per day between the multiple systems, locations, and clients.
The first picture is a municipal steam-to-water heat exchanger that provides hydronic heating to a church and food pantry in midtown Manhattan. They're overheating.
The second is of a Leonard mixing valve in Brooklyn. Water temperatures are inconsistent.
Third is an Aerco Benchmark getting too hot too quickly.
Fourth is an NTI high efficiency system installed by the irretrievably clueless.
Fifth is a duplex ejector system in a single family residence that needs constant attention because it fills with cooking grease twice a year.
6th is a high efficiency boiler installed with a back-pitched flue resulting in daily lockouts.
Last pic is graduation day for my Plumbing and HVAC students at The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of New York City's trade education program called Mechanics Institute. This is a big day for me at the end of every 2-year program.
Questions and comments are most welcome.

Re: Which indirect water heater to buy or not?
The best tank is the one most suitable for your particular water quality. If the current tank hasn't leaked after 20 years I would assume that it's a good match.
I wouldn't go by online reviews, they usually don't tell the full story. A tank could be a bad match for the water quality, it could be poorly installed, never maintained (flushed and anode rod replacement), poorly sized, etc. The majority of people who don't have any problems aren't going online and leaving reviews about their experiences to balance things out.
Re: who makes the Webb Pure Pro?
Should be fine. We've installed a few. Might also look at the Utica PEG-075E, also sold as the Columbia CEG-075E. These have the sight glass and controls on the left, which might work better depending on where it will be installed. My choice would be whatever fits the space better.
Re: Interior line set runs?
Linesets properly protected in the walls don’t bother me. 8 ceiling cassettes in an 1897 Victorian seems horrible.
Re: Short Cycling and High Pressure after a few weeks of warm weather?
i was wondering if the fill valve, whatever form it has, was leaking at about the same rate as normal water loss and it was now flooded after not operating for a while but that doesn't seem to be the case
Re: Short Cycling and High Pressure after a few weeks of warm weather?
Someone did a lot of work for it to be oversized. Do all the emitters for the steam system heat? Some of the system not heating because valves on radiators are closed or piping is holding on to the extra condensate from the setback or some venting is clogged would make it build pressure even if it is sized right. Are you sure the gauge is accurate? The gauge and pressuretrol seem to be on the same pigtail. What is the differential set to on the pressuretrol? Is that a version with an additive differential?
Re: Short Cycling and High Pressure after a few weeks of warm weather?
is it heating the radiators before it cuts out?
Re: Best Material to Use for Drainpipes in Residential Homes.
pro press in certain situations is worth the extra cost of fittings. But not always!
