Re: What size pex tubing do you recommend?
Missing from this discussion is an accurate load. Is it 50 or 150 btu/ sq ft?
50 btu/‘ is a leaky or uninsulated home in New England🧐
A hand wash bay without any doors, a wind tunnel, probably 100 btu or more.
Location and typical winter temperatures goes into a design
Large pex allows more gpm.= more btus transferred. That is why pex comes in multiple sizes
You get one chance to get the tube right. Compromise and go with 5/8

Re: high humidity in my house
i believe an erv would bring in less moisture, the hrv is making it so you're essentially trying to remove the latent heat from outside.
Re: OT: Underground Wiring Options
When I did the construction of an addition for my existing house with new service, I ran a one and a half inch line from house to garage in a 2 inch out to the connection point for the mains.
If I did it again, I would run a 3 inch out to the connection point for the mains. It was a pain pulling the aluminum supply lines through the 2 inch PVC with two long 90 in line.
Do yourself a favor and leave a couple pull strings inside the run to the garage
The inspector required metallic detectable tape to be installed above the lines.

Re: OT: Underground Wiring Options
for the cost difference in the larger PVC, why not leave the option for a 50 or 100A upgrade?
1-1/2” PVC would be my suggestion
I believe 18” burial, 12” under driveways is how the code reads
I put yellow caution tape in the trench a few inches above the conduit

Re: Can someone explain this hydronic loop heating.
I would say it was someone’s useless attempt to get more heat out of that unit.
Re: Can someone explain this hydronic loop heating.
The third pipe is connectconnected to the convector, meant for bleeding im sure. The boiler is about 10 years old, Williamson 105k. Its a typical setup , expansion tank , hy vent , coming off the boiler. Pretty sure someone, definitely not an expert, at one point attempted to get more heat out of convectors. Out of the 10 units , 2 have saddle valves piecered in the pipe for venting , 3 have coin bleeders , and the rewt dont have a way to bleed at all.
The the cover is slotted at the bottom and the top to allow for air movement.
I Ordered the fittings and manual bleeders , so arrive tomorrow.
Re: I'm getting solar panels. I'll let you know how it goes in this discussion thread.
@ethicalpaul Hope you will post a few things as to how the system benefits you in the future.
You have a good-looking house. Even the deer are admiring it.

Re: Weil McLain Plus 80 indirect water tank
If I remember right, its a full 3/4" Hy-Vent.
If there are isolation valves on both the supply and return for the water heater, you can close them, then open the purge valve (with hose and bucket) for that loop to drop the pressure to 0 psi.
You don't need to order from Triangle Tube, you can use SupplyHouse and look for a Taco 3/4 Hy-Vent.
Just making sure. You have a bladder type expansion tank, correct? Not a compression tank in the ceiling.

Re: I'm getting solar panels. I'll let you know how it goes in this discussion thread.
they got here at 7am. They first had to verify some roof measurements and layout.
then I helped them locate the first rafter (from the attic) because the “hit the roof with a mallet” method wasn’t working very well because my decking is solid 1915 pine tongue and groove.
They expect to be done with the installation today
