Re: New refrigerants Epa 608
What's the point?
When you've got equipment being engineered / manufactured poorly that dumps how many thousands of pounds? of refrigerant into the atmosphere per year, why does it matter? I've got a feeling it's thousands of pounds per month……….but I really don't know.
Now, some will argue the equipment leaks because it's made so thin to meet efficiency requirements. If that's the case, then those requirements are wrong and need to change.

Just wanted to thanks the good men of this forum for helping me thru my 1st winter
Thank you for teaching me about my heating system last winter. I changed a few vents, swapped in a Gorton #2 main vent, learned my thermostat, removed radiator covers, read Dan's book, adjusted the pressuretrol to +1/+1, etc. I call it a success, and the steam worked great. Bills were manageable.
I am thinking of getting a fireplace insert wood stove to augment the steam for next winter.
I have tankless coil, so my boiler runs 24/7/365.
Also, got the original service guy in. He only changed filter, nozzle, strainer. No brushing/vacuuming, and I've let that go. He said my 1945 boiler does not have the heat exchanger nipples that need brushing, b/c the gap is wider (or something like that). I also learned not to sweat every detail, and deal with a "good enough" mindset. When it breaks, I'll get a new one.
Hope you guys are enjoying your Spring & Summer. What interesting stuff do you guys focus and obsess over in warm weather??
Re: Hartford Loop design origin
I love you all dearly but I must say it’s a challenge sometimes—different people move between residential and commercial in a thread and then you come in claiming the commercial term just used means a housewife 😅
PS: My paternal grandfather was that same man at a small schoolhouse in Marcelin, Saskatchewan in about 1915 and managed to more or less support 16 children! Look how much we have in common!
Re: U.S. Radiator Corp 20-4 Steam Boiler
measure the edr of the steam emitters connected to the boiler.
I wouldn't worry about the hot water loops unless it is over 30% of the output if the boiler and even then it won't be an issue unless the edr just matches the heat loss of the building. you could do some comparison of the output of the boiler to the heat loss of the building, as long as the boiler is bigger shouldn't be a problem.
Re: Its hot in here 84deg but I am a lot hotter
They just want to make sure you're serious about wanting the warranty replacement, that's all. I mean, if you give up after just a few li'l emails, you really didn't want it that much after all, right? 😉
Re: Electric Steam Boiler
I would ask the client to restate his complaint. Then ask why is it so important to see the steam. Is he not getting the same results other than visually? Then ask if he trusts Google's AI thing.
His money back for the boiler (if you can return it), and he'll pay the labor for removal, right?

Re: Gorton air eliminator, condensation/sweating in summer
Sure the system hasn't gotten over-filled?
