Re: What was the best MacGuyver moment you actually saw on a job site?
On my first visit to our school steam boiler, I noticed that one of the 4" HW steam valves was operated with a 15' stick. You would lift the plunger/shaft for heat, wedge the stick down on the floor, and then drop it when overheated. Duct tape was involved in that it held 2 8' long sticks together to get the proper length. The boiler was set to maintain pressure all season long.
Upon investigating, it was obvious that a C-clip had fallen out of the linkage.
Other wise the motor worked correctly. I did come up with some form of clip that put the valve back in the auto mode.

If you've got a paperclip, a match, some duct tape, and a piece of string, you can conquer the world.

I LOVE these stories. I'm just an old, amateur, handyman, but I've been known to "MacGuyver" stuff myself.

@EBEBRATT-Ed My boss was concerned about the potential liability in case of an accident.

Crown boiler is owned by Velocity Boiler which is owned by Burnham
Re: Remove PTAC unit for servicing
The hydro coil looks like it has valves on both sides, and a bleeder. Isolate the coil, cut it out and pipe in unions. Then take everything back to the shop for an acid wash and new insulation. Pretty gross in there. I wonder what the blower wheel looks like.

Re: Best Material to Use for Drainpipes in Residential Homes.
Do you use a propane torch with an auto-lighter? How lazy are you not to use a kerosene torch?
How lazy are you to buy pre-made copper fittings instead of cutting and fitting your own from pipe?
It will never fail to amaze me that improvements to products that increase their flexibility and decrease valuable labor time are constantly seen as "lazy" in this industry.
Re: Remove PTAC unit for servicing
What type of service are you trying to do? Does it need to be removed?

Re: Daikin 2-Zone - Which port to charge? - Instructions confusing
no driers in minis, just fine screens.

Re: Daikin 2-Zone - Which port to charge? - Instructions confusing
Recover all the charge, quick leak check (hold 250-350 lbs for an hour), vac it down & hold under 500 microns without climbing for 15-30 minutes, recharge with virgin refrigerant. Mini splits don't typically have filter dryers (the oil is hydrophobic, not hydroscopic) so that vac & hold is important.
