Re: Can someone explain this hydronic loop heating.
The third pipe is connectconnected to the convector, meant for bleeding im sure. The boiler is about 10 years old, Williamson 105k. Its a typical setup , expansion tank , hy vent , coming off the boiler. Pretty sure someone, definitely not an expert, at one point attempted to get more heat out of convectors. Out of the 10 units , 2 have saddle valves piecered in the pipe for venting , 3 have coin bleeders , and the rewt dont have a way to bleed at all.
The the cover is slotted at the bottom and the top to allow for air movement.
I Ordered the fittings and manual bleeders , so arrive tomorrow.
Re: I'm getting solar panels. I'll let you know how it goes in this discussion thread.
@ethicalpaul Hope you will post a few things as to how the system benefits you in the future.
You have a good-looking house. Even the deer are admiring it.

Re: Weil McLain Plus 80 indirect water tank
If I remember right, its a full 3/4" Hy-Vent.
If there are isolation valves on both the supply and return for the water heater, you can close them, then open the purge valve (with hose and bucket) for that loop to drop the pressure to 0 psi.
You don't need to order from Triangle Tube, you can use SupplyHouse and look for a Taco 3/4 Hy-Vent.
Just making sure. You have a bladder type expansion tank, correct? Not a compression tank in the ceiling.

10:30am progress
Re: I'm getting solar panels. I'll let you know how it goes in this discussion thread.
they got here at 7am. They first had to verify some roof measurements and layout.
then I helped them locate the first rafter (from the attic) because the “hit the roof with a mallet” method wasn’t working very well because my decking is solid 1915 pine tongue and groove.
They expect to be done with the installation today
Re: OT What is this metal piece found in excavation?
Is this 18 inches down from the surface ? It should be. If the new run is also PVC it also should be 18 inches down too.
Re: Help me calculate pressure drop!
With an atmospheric boiler with limited air adjustment being short of gas will give you the same combustion that his test results show….low CO2 which should be closer to 8%
Re: OT What is this metal piece found in excavation?
Did you try a magnet on it?
You could scrap lead off the sheaf if that is what it is.
Could that have been the original UG feeder to the house?
Our utility had similar cable UG feeding post street lights from the 1920's.
Won't bend easily because of the rubber insulation inside.
Re: What size pex tubing do you recommend?
Thanks for your patience in dumbing it down for us addled brainers, @GroundUp.
