Re: Oil furnace issue
It wouldn't take much work to disconnect and cap those pipes on either end of the radiator. Any competent plumber could do it.

Re: Identifying Mystery WM Boiler
No way to tell from this. Are there any names or numbers cast into the sections? Do you still have the jacket?
Re: Monoflo tee and pumping away
just to be clear the pump could be on the return and still be pumping away as long as the expansion tank is connected at or near the pumps inlet
Many mod cons have the pump on the return to help overcome pressure drop in the boiler
Here are two examples, one with pump at return, one at supply
Typical ci boilers have low pressure drop so tank at return, pump on supply is still “pumping away”
What is important is for the air purger to be at the boiler supply out, the hottest point in the system

Re: Unraveling Intermittent Boiler Flame Failures: The Ultimate Troubleshooting Guide for Technicians
Excellent video, as usual. Flame failures were the worst "pin pricks" a service tech can could witness. Imagine, you drive half way across the state, fix the problem, and the next day the custodian calls to report another flame failure. There were a few jobs where the problem was never fixed until the boiler/burner was replaced. No wonder I have little hair left on my head. Again, @RAY, another great video.
Re: Cool old stuff
I saw about 10 old steam systems that had that set-up that worked perfectly until someone tried to re-engineer the system or decided that he knew how to make it work better.
Re: steam boiler short cycling
Fix the valve leaks, but yes, that won't affect your pressure very much. But you don't want any steam leaks.
Do you know the EDR or total square feet of radiation in the building? Compare that to the "Net Square Feet of Steam" rating on the boiler and you will likely see the boiler is too large.
Re: Radiator vents sucking in air at end of cycle
HotRod1975, If you can see the 30 psi gauge move, your pressure is most likely too high. The Gorton #1s will tend to behave that way when the pressure is around 3 psi or above. You need to determine the pressure with a 0 to 5 psi gauge. Then determine if the vent is closing due to pressure not temperature.
Re: Monoflo tee and pumping away
You're not. And I hope you are wearing the nickname "PumpingAwayKid" as a badge of honor. It's a great title to have.

Re: T87F anticipator appears faulty
" Apparently, the resistor is in parallel with the switch wire. "
If a resistor of the low resistance value of the anticipator's resistor was in parallel with the actual thermostat's switch the boiler would never turn off with the thermostat's switch opening.
The anticipator resistor is in series with the mercury switch as the wiring diagram shows. So it only heats up during a call for heat and cools down when there is no call for heat.
Normally the small amount of added heat simply causes the thermostat to open just a bit sooner, anticipating the heat to come briefly after the call is terminated. This provides better comfort and tighter temperature control.
Re: LP boiler Shuts off completely after reaching room temp
did anyone pull out the burners and clean them? it looks like that needs to be done regardless
