Re: Taco 007 Circulator Replacement Sizing? Undersized even though working ok?
By far the simplest way to handle two or more loops which are piped in parallel is to replace them with an "equivalent" single pipe which has the same hydraulic characteristics as the combined pipes. If all the pipes are the same material, it is sufficient to simply use an equivalent pipe with the same cross-sectional area as the sum of all the pipes in the loop. You can then calculate the head loss/flow curve in the usual way for that equivalent pipe. Then the flow in each individual pipe can be back calculated from the head loss.

Hi Gary… thank you very much for responding… I will email you direct to discuss.

Re: CH System Overhaul with Cast Iron to PEX Conversion
Some of the mod cons have multiple temperature outputs. But only one runs at a time. Maybe the high mass warms and can be off while the boiler goes to the low temperature load?
Not many series primary loops being used these days. If the high temperature load is not running, the low temperature will not see that lower return. Plus you need a loop pump if the boiler needs hydraulic separation

Re: Piping for New Steam Boiler
Condensate dropping down the last takeoff will run straight to the equalizer, unlike the other takeoffs, where it rains down on the steam supplying later ones, cooling it. A 45-degree takeoff eliminates this.
The 13 inches is perfect.
On many boilers, the mud leg is lower than the boiler drain, so a drain in the mud leg gives some opportunity to clean that out every few years. And it's likely that a drain cock can be unscrewed two decades from now when plug would be hopelessly rusted in place.
Re: Cast Iron baseboard leak on strange fitting
You should be able to see how much the tube is moving by the scale around the outside.
an expansion loop can be built with 4 ells also.

Re: Softwood flooring over low temperature radiant?
@Jamie Hall I'd be ineresting to test. I've found that, a firm desire for the irrational is a great contractors red flag. "Oh no, a huge shag rug is going to be right there" Leads to " OK, good luck with that"

Re: Cast Iron baseboard leak on strange fitting
Looks like an expansion coupling. Looks like a bad idea. Should be a simple repair with a couple of couplings and a length of pipe.

Re: 1970 Boiler 5000 gallon a month leak
How often are you adding water. 2nd off, I would highly doubt it is the underfloor piping causing 5000 gals a month loss unless it had an auto fill that was ice cold and constantly running or unless he is constantly filling daily. Shut the main water line valve off in the house and go out to water meter and see if it is still spinning. I would be more likely to believe a bad water main coming to house from meter. Again without little more information hard to say. Of course having to add water regularly to heating system still indicates a leak that will need to be addressed, just maybe not the big cause of loss.
Re: Identify this radiator valve
The only thing to go bad is the stem packing. Just repack it and call it a day.
