Re: 1933 Burnham Boiler - Questions and Potential Replacement
That Burnham 2708 is rated 1550 square feet. Double-check your radiation- also see if any rads have been removed over the years.
Re: Replacing cast iron radiator with smaller one
If so, that's probably also true for the rest of the house. A heat-loss calculation would determine that. What that means is the system would run at lower temps, so the rad size should not be changed.
Re: Trying to sell my steam radiators... Any tips?
Well to be honest, one detail I left out is that originally I had put them up on Facebook Marketplace for free and got about a dozen VERY interested people within an hour — so I took down the ad thinking there might actually be an active market.
If the market is just for scrap, then so be it.
Re: OT What is this metal piece found in excavation?
Is it lead jacketed or lead-sheathed wire cable / electrical cable ? If you are sure it is de-energized cut a bit off the end for a better (cleaner) inspection. Capture the chips from cutting.
Re: OT What is this metal piece found in excavation?
can you bend it with your hands without using it as a large lever? if so it is lead. the fact that it is dull gray instead of orange and black makes me think it is lead.
Re: OT What is this metal piece found in excavation?
No way, even 150 years ago they knew better.

Re: What is causing this?
the second and third pictures are concerning. It that a casting, looks like it’s leaking from the flats for a wrenching point.

Re: Unrecognized return vent
Also @pacoit , if you do go with vacuum you can use standard thermostatic steam traps as main vents. Hook them to the vac pump and the mains will vent quickly.
