Run time is completely irrelevant here and you can disregard that advice. You simply need your heat loss and your heating degree days. You can get the heating degree days in 1 minute from Google, but it’ll be slightly more work to get the heat loss.

Perform a heat loss calc and combine that figure with your actual HDD, and it'll give you your annual BTU needs. Divide that BTU number by about 84,000 (92% efficiency) and you have your gallons required. Always a boiler, never a tankless. Whoever told you the run time thing needs to be completely disregarded.

i had one leak before i read the instructions again and realized it needs to be rotated. maybe the auto rotators are failing or people are removing them.

yes. Read this again….
”Valve come in many types and can be rated for multiple purpose. Lots of gas valve have small wing type shutoff. The one you have is common across water and gas.”

as far as i can tell there is no space inside for a field installed manual valve. It looks like there is factory installed tubing from the gas inlet on the bottom to the automatic gas valve.
that is likely boilerplate they bought from someone that has been the same for 40 years and is for conventional boilers with a manual knob on the automatic gas valve.
