Re: Help with piping configuration and head loss
Thank you, @EdTheHeaterMan ! This makes sense now! I've just downloaded the "Zoning Made Easy", also.
I have access to an older B&G HV Pump with solid motor mounts and a Spiralink coupler. The pump curve looks like a good fit, also.
Would this be a workable solution as an alternative to the Taco 0012?
Re: Where can I add a scoop and air vent
The problem is circulators pumping into the ponpc. This is dropping pressure, probably sub zero into the top of the system. Adding auto vents at the highest part of the system will introduce more air into the system not expel it.
Re: Can I use new oil boiler to replace old? Old is leaking. Old has vent, looks like new does not? TY
That’s not a DIY project. Get someone who knows what they’re doing.
Improper installation of a boiler can cause an explosion or CO poisoning.

Re: Steam Boiler sizing?
Well, it won't shoot water out of the vents if you set it up properly including the near boiler piping and setting the pressure correctly. That won't be your problem.
What will be is that the poor thing will short cycle, and there's nothing to be done about that.
Re: Can I use new oil boiler to replace old? Old is leaking. Old has vent, looks like new does not? TY
That's pretty vague… old boilers are replaced with new ones all the time, but these things aren't refrigerators which Home Depot brings in on a truck and shoves in a corner.
There's a lot more to replacing a boiler…
Re: Correct placement of circulator pump
the pump can go on either supply or return piping
What is important in the expansion tank should be on the inlet side of the circ, regardless of the pumps location
The air purger always goes at the hottest point in the system, right out of the heater/ boiler

Re: 1/2" tin-coated steel tubing that matches CTS in old fin-tube system
the manufacturers opinion will be based more on liability, a legal decision more than a suitability answer🧐
