Re: Cold water is hot due to amateur plumbing
if you innstall the check on the feed to the DHW, you might / will need an expansion tank on the hot side since the DHW will be isolated from expanding back to the house side,
and what Ed Mad Dog says, Cross Connections ?
Re: Weil Mclain H-9 boiler from the 60's...
I think the idea was that the pilot would never go out. IF the pilot ever went out, the small amount of gas would just "float" between the cast iron sections and go up the chimney. We have seen many old boilers and many old kitchen stoves with this type of pilot.
Re: Cold water is hot due to amateur plumbing
Hi, Just to address one point, cross connections can happen simply from hard water changing the way seals seal. I'd do that test so the possibility can be ruled out.

Re: Boiler not firing/extremely delayed when hot water calls for heat.
The end switch wires from the zone valve go in to the zone control terminals 3 and 4? if that is the case the end switch in the zone valve is almost certainly bad.
Re: Steam-one boiler or two, and, Atmospheric vs Gun
Atmospheric is cheaper and less problems but the efficiency with a power burner is a little better.
Re: Overfill alarm
I would like to see the actual ordinance wording to see if my alarm with visual overflow ability will fit the words. If it says electronic sensor, I can certainly add some wires and lights to that with a condensate overflow switch like the one on AC evaporator coil pan. They would be parts W, X and Y
Re: Overfill alarm
Please edit to remove prices. I thin this is exactly a few people here's territory so there should be some people familiar with the rule.
Re: Overfill alarm
More rules that are not needed. Just trying to force people into heat pumps.
Re: Overfill alarm
The op said"
"used the whistle stop provided by the oil delivery company"
Sounds to me like this town is against oil as a fuel and is trying to force the issue. I think they want some type of wired alarm system.
Re: Axeman-Anderson oil fired boiler vs. Burnham oil fired
The burner and boiler are not the problem. The problem is the "technician"
First words out of their mouth is "you need a new boiler"
