A good Heat Pump properly sized and installed should supply 90+% of your heating needs.

The MFGs usually say 24 hours. The crankcase heaters are pretty low wattage don't use that much.

right now we are paying 33 cents per kilowatt. And its going up another 12 percent - probably putting us in the highest top three when comparing all states.
In another thread it was determined that at around 30 degrees its cheaper to run a high efficiency gas boiler / 95 % than use the heat pump for heat.
If a heat pump is not used over the winter it seems like a waste to have it turn on that outside heater. So if the power to the unit was shut off (breaker in panel) and the unit was needed for emergency heat (if the gas boiler broke), how long would that outside unit need power to warm things up? I would not want to damage the compressor for lack of oil.
Utility bills are soaring in this state..

The whole " google AI " thing sounds like a bit much, especially if there is no evidence of any leaks. It sounds like instructions as if the heat failed and the pipes are going to freeze scenario.
Anyway I'd put everything back to normal and try to identify where the sound is coming from. Paying a Plumber to find a noise that only happens 4 times a day may be disappointing.
From here it sounds like it may be a toilet flapper valve that has a slow leak and the fill valve is just topping off the toilet tank as needed when needed.

Could the dripping just be condensation from the flue gasses ? I'd let it run and see what happens.

you don't want to run your softened water to the boiler,
get a line from the well before the softener,
have a water test done and see if you need other filtration, or treatment,

Thanks for the responses! Sounds pretty unanimous to go 40gal rather than 30 if only for cost. It really just depends on size. My boiler is in front of the WH with not a lot of space between.@edsut
@JUGHNE yes, it is raised off the floor by what appears to be about 18". Thanks for the pointer.
@EdTheHeaterMan I will look into a flex connector for the water line as well. That will make it easier for the "next" time. :-)
@Larry Weingarten not sure I understand regarding "...add a second magnesium anode...". Do you mean I modify a brand new WH before installing it, or is this a feature that I should make sure I get with whatever I buy?

I have installed probably, every manufacturers water heater that is made.
Probably over a thousand by now.
A company that I have found that is excellent Is Bradford White.
Check out Bradford White water heaters. They do things internally that others do not do.
There water heaters are a great investment through out there entire line.
Others are very similar and often a little less money initially.

I would just call Island Aire with the model and serial # of what you have. I am sure they can match it up
