Re: Radiant heat with oil? Can it be done?
As I noted above, short cycling is not a concern with oil burners. They're commonly configured to maintain boiler temperature when idle with zero flow. With a fifteen gallon boiler and a 20F swing, a 100K BTU/hr boiler only needs to run for about 90 seconds, they seem to be able to do this for decades without ill effect. Any heating load is going to give longer run times.
Where you typically run into trouble with small loads — and this is not specific to oil burners — is with the distribution, specifically getting a circulator to work properly both with tiny loads and the full capacity of the boiler when it's needed. The solution is primary/secondary piping or a similar variant.
Re: Good spud wrench ...
Cut the nut off the spud. Put something in the spud like a bolt threaded rod or metal bar so it can't crush. Then you (with the nut removed) can get a pipe wrench on the spud with a cheater pipe.
Re: Type K copper pipe
Hi, Maybe a dumb question, but do you have a water quality report for your water? I ask because if the water is agressive enough to damage solder, I'd be concerned about what it will do to copper. Some sort of plastic piping might last longer, even if it means putting it in conduit to prevent damage and to make it far easier to replace if ever needed.

Re: Type K copper pipe
1 size larger polyethylene pipe.
Meaning if you had 3/4" copper go with 1" polyethylene.

Re: Replacing thermostat circuit board in a Taco 006 with a 5 wire fan capacitor?
No, I think if you had used one of these: https://www.supplyhouse.com/White-Rodgers-90-113-Fan-Control-Center-120-VAC-Primary-24-VAC-Secondary-SPDT-Relay would have an installation that is a) legal (UL listed), b) safe (made for this use), c) reliable (no parts of unknown origin or potentially misapplied), and most importantly d) any service tech will understand exactly what's going on.
If I came across this in the field, my repair would include replacing that circulator, along with the parts to do it right. You might be able to get Chuck in a truck to fiddle with it, but can he offer you the warranty that I do? Or the insurance, or bond, or licensing?

believe what you want
that’s crazy!

Re: Staple Up with Cantilever
no need for reflective foil if you use transfer plates , or the air space for that matter
You as much batt as the joist depth allows
Spray foam the rim joist to eliminate infiltration

Re: Replacing thermostat circuit board in a Taco 006 with a 5 wire fan capacitor?
it also would have been listed, met code, and legal.
Re: Replacing thermostat circuit board in a Taco 006 with a 5 wire fan capacitor?
" Why would the Nest care at all about the motor capacitor? "
I don't know either but that is the way you started the thread.
" Replacing thermostat circuit board in a Taco 006 with a 5 wire fan capacitor? "So instant confusion !!!
No mention of a bigger transformer and a different relay. Which could have been added in another J-box (even at another location) for a nice neat installation without modifying the circulator, chafed wires and flying connections outside of the box. Just poor workmanship in my opinion.
