Is it okay just to rinse your balls, or do you clean them with anything ? (condensate traps)

When cleaning out a condensate trap, I just power down and remove trap and then pop the ball out and rinse everything, then refill it with water and reattach it.
Not sure what the ball is made of (Triangle Tube boiler), but can they build up layers of anything with time ? If so, any suggestions for proper ball washing ?

Re: OUCH!

Back in the day, there was a saying "A penny for your thoughts?" I think these folks must have been asked for their thoughts many times a day! Maybe they were really smart.

That's my 2 cents worth

Re: Pro opinion on near boiler piping on a new steam boiler.

In NJ, it needs to be within 6" of the floor, and not threaded on the end. And it doesn't matter what most inspectors want, it needs to be an approved material.
Ok
Good luck with that.

Re: Watch your ears and prolonged noise...

Matt, I wouldn’t know where to begin. 😂

Re: Pro opinion on near boiler piping on a new steam boiler.

I left an email with the installer to come back to fix the draft regulator and install the tee and drain on the wet return. We’ll see. I also called my oil company and had their oil service technician call me back about the combustion analysis test. He told me that it’s a waste of my money and his time to come out and give me a combustion analysis on a brand new boiler. He said he would, but he would feel bad about taking my money. He did recommend that I have the installer fix the draft regulator and install it into a proper location. Then, look at the back of the draft regulator to see if it’s black from soot. If there isn’t any soot, then I shouldn’t worry about it. Otherwise he can come out and take a look. Pretty old school, huh?
So your oil company feels fine tuning that boiler is a waste of money. That’s partially true, they sell you that oil.
Start looking for a different company.

It’s no CAD drawing but at least I got to use my kid’s colored pencils.

Re: Pro opinion on near boiler piping on a new steam boiler.

That must be commercial code, no? Houses don't have boiler rooms (nor 1,000 pounds of steam per hour) and I've never seen a house that had an upward-directed discharge like that.

When I read that the first thing that came to mind.....
