@SweatHog for sure! We may all love hydronics here but Americans don't seem nearly as enthusiastic. Gotta stay aware of what customers actually want.Fancy counter tops, stainless appliances, a shiny new SUV and truck in the driveway and the cheapest HVAC system you can hide in the basement and it doesn't matter if it works poorly as long as it works?

Re: Meaga press for steam
I recently looked at a re pipe which the contractor had used mega press on the header including the equilizer ,Hartford loop tee and back to the boiler . Unfortunately 3 of press press joints where leaking and had some quite large cauliflower growing aside from leaking when operating . Of course it was piped terribly so it may have been worse had it not been so easy w the mega press but they still got it wrong anyway . I think w what they used in material cost wise they could have piped it in cast iron and used both tappings and it been about the same price . They of course would not return for what ever reason and I didn’t get the job for the repipe the boiler and 3 steam mains repairs and re pitching of the mains among a lot of other neglected issue . Same ole same ole under performing systems and people live w it or replace it w a better zero maintance just replace system . As for mega press I guess for a emergency repair or in wall repair ok but to do a steam boiler nbp in it ,I would think it would be cost prohibitive when it comes to say a 3 or 4 tee better yet reducing tees ouch . Biggest hang up is the cost and waste being zero is reusable just to the recycle if lucky .

@chrisj Tens of thousands of Amish homes without indoor plumbing. I really don't care what some bureaucrat says is "legal" or not. In my house, I am the law!Never thought I'd be having an argument with someone about the importance of indoor plumbing.
Regardless, those Amish homes don't have forced air.
Strange argument..............
Vacation home I'm thinking wood stove is best choice but forced air would probably be fine. I haven't put any thought into such situations honestly.

Just throwing this out there 300 ft on 1/2 pex as I know is the limits on 1/2 pex unless you would like to buy a large pump and a large td on loops and issues balancing . General rule is more loops and keep the loop lengths at or with in 10 % of each other . Also be sure to buy quality manifold w decent flow indicators ,cheap on line manifolds are just that and replacing later is always more costly then spending once and getting it right . As a pet peeve be sure to include a manual hi limit on your radiant loop nothing worse then a bad mixing valve and a floor over heating and ruining say a hardwood floor who pays the bill ? I know it’s not seen much these days but ions ago they were usually included in a radiant system design and boiler diagrams but neither are rarely seen and when it does happen nobody takes any responsibility . Even on a mod con w mix temps I feel it’s wise to install in a last ditch effort to prevent an even worse issue from occurring and ending up in court . Just a clam pet peeve secondary back up or first line defense for damaging flooring or title on radiant jobs after you have witnessed it you always remember it and keep it in the bag of tricks . Ps I kinda prefer brass Manifolds over plastic and if zoning your radiant take a look at cross mainifolds the flow through them is decent for a radiant system and as for zoning if it’s all one temp it’s a no brainer . A learning curve on piping them and making it all look acceptable but the price point leave everybody else out ta bussiness . Great product for a job that fits the bill but hi gpm over 2.5 then ya gotta look else where for higher flow .

Some years ago I was asked if I could fix the hot water supply in the restrooms of a 1961 parochial school.
I went to school there when it was built and never noticed any problem with the hot water.
Looking in the plumbing chase it was obvious that there was never any hot water connected.
The H & C were both connected to the cold supply.
Hanging down in the chase was a 3/4" line capped and connected to the hot supply line.
So added a tempering valve and separate hot supplies to the valves.
At several school reunions I asked class mates if they noticed lack of hot water. None did.
The conclusion was that there was little hand washing going on in the 60's-70's-etc.
I went to school there when it was built and never noticed any problem with the hot water.

I know this is somewhat off topic, but as I read this thread, I was reminded of these urinals that I saw at a school in Oregon.My elementary school had something similar, but around 5 of them.
On multiple occasions I saw confused 4-5 year olds standing inside the urinal to pee; coating their shoes with their own urine and whoever's was there before them.
That was the only building where I remember seeing separate hot and cold faucets. Unusual plumbing fixture choices for sure.
