Re: Heating Pros: Please Help Us With This Quick Survey
Done...
IMO Very vage survey. This survey did not address Aluminium vs Stainless vs Copper materials.Lack of the industrie understanding and treating the equipment proper which would also increase the life expectancy of Condensing equipment...
It also Would be nice to see ROI, Lifetime operational cost, breakeven points for the condensing vs. Cast iron boilers in commercial vs. Residental installs.
Snowmelts here in Colorado using Condensing Boilers are a no brainer.
Based on current fuel prices in Europe the outcome of this survey would be in favor for the condensing equipment which is will no longer be installed in the residental sector as of beginning of next year.
Guessing that due to our artificially low current fuel price point the cast iron equipment is still going to be favored here in the USA especially on the East Coast.

Re: Plate exchanger location
@GroundUp “as you were already told” **** are you talking about facebook? No one’s heating DHW? If your the same kid who simply “said it’s piped wrong” which was the only reply I got to a different question that’s far different from your comment above, think you have your posts mixed up here bud.

Re: Transformer/ pump relay combo
The relay I indicated above is rated 40VA. however I always add a Smoke Keeper
Here is the relay comparison from the Grundfos to the Fan Center. If you can read wiring diagrams you will see that they are identical as to function.

https://www.supplyhouse.com/DiversiTech-D-90113-Fan-Center-DPDT-Relay-120V
Just mount the relay on a square box.
This is the Smoke Keeper I referred to above. It keeps the factory installed smoke inside the transformer.

You keep referring to putting components into a box of some type. I wonder if you can take a picture of the box you have that you want to put this stuff into?

Re: c-wire
Teemok reminds me of icesailor, except on quaaludes. Super smart, but polite. I'm a fan!
Re: Homeowner DIY Special
That's the type of install that gives DIYers a bad name! I'm still not convinced it's not a Home Depot install.

Re: Air in line
You do not have a barometric damper in your flue pipe THAT IS NOT GOOD, you need to have a barometric damper to reduce the amount of wood you use as the fire box will continue to pull air into the fire box even when the aquastat is satisfied.
I like how they installed your dump zone on the block wall, it will keep the boiler from overheating quickly.
NOW about purging your wood boiler of air;
You can either let the wood boiler run wide open with the ash pit door open to heat the water in all the zones at the same time or open the purging fitting to let air escape while feeding cold water into the boiler ONLY if the fire is out to push air out of the system.

Re: The last word about c-wire thermostats and wiring diagrams.
Some Trane furnaces call it B. Sometimes labeled as B or C or B/C, just to make it more fun. Then there's W/B and Rc. Keeps people guessing. See? Taco has a 24v and Com terminal on some boards. Theory and knowing how to test for it is best. Not so easy to teach. I've seen the proverbial light bulb go on with a few I've worked with. They are suddenly much more valuable. Always fun when they C the light.

Understanding the C wire might be as elusive as understanding some female anatomy. Everyone has a theory and they also think yours is way off base.

Homeowner DIY Special
Found this on a call yesterday. The original power vent water heater was still in the basement. Note the melted Fernco couplings on top of the tank. You would think they would have figured out they did something wrong when components nearly caught on fire....
Re: The last word about c-wire thermostats and wiring diagrams.
I'm confident that water heater is powering the furnace. Spill the beans! How is it done? One wire? Bro?
