Re: Finally!
I am surprised it wasn't gone 45 years ago.
That being said they were pretty reliable and worked well for probably 100 years or so.
Slow acting was the biggest issue
One thing I liked about the 817 and 117 was when the fire was proven the ignition relay dropped out so you could tell the flame was proven.
Not so with the 116 or 816 which were constant/here we go again/intermittent ignition.
I wonder how many are still in use?
Peerless Catalogue
From the eighties or early nineties? An historical document hopefully for the library. Probably not real pertinent to today's discussions, but a marker as to where we were at one time on this journey.

Re: Good old boy efficiency (burner limits)
Actually, I set the High and low limit and marked it all out with a sharpie. but I like the duck tape option.

Re: Faucet brands
We now use Gerber in our apartments with plain compression washers. Not pretty but solid brass, prison quality as used in public housing projects. Haven't changed a washer in eight years.

Re: New Return Pipe Noise During Renovation
Is anyone on this thread in NJ by chance? Since you all have diagnosed my system over the course of the last 2 weeks, figured I might as well ask if anyone can actually come fix it for me! Doesn’t hurt to ask right?

Re: Biofuel fuel in tank?? What is this?
A RACOR 500FG fuel filter would collect all that water and dirt for you.
The FG model has a stationary vanes which create a centrifugal flow of fuel which spins the water and dirt out of the fuel and collects against the clear polycarbonate bowl where it settles down to the bottom of the bowl.
The clear polycarbonate sediment bowl allows you to monitor the amount of water and dirt it collects and then you can manually drain it (and not lose the prime thus avoiding the line becoming air bound) into a bucket or coffee can, to get rid of the dirt and water by dumping it in kitty litter and take all the guess work out of it.
The 10-micron cartridge filter is good for 10,000 gallons of filtration.

Re: Cast Iron to Mod Con Boiler-Regrets??
The few we've installed, on the customers' instance have been regretted.
Nothing beats the dependability and long term efficiency of the most basic system available. All our work is commercial, and tenants can't be left without heat for days awaiting parts.
We specify systems that can be repaired by a handyman with a screwdriver and paper clip. To the best of our knowledge, every single system we've specified over 45 years is still operating. I don't know of any that couldn't be repaired with parts on the truck in less than an hour.
Re: Circulation issue- lp boiler
Sometimes the IFCs can be installed backwards into the pumps. It would cause no flow situation like you see.

Re: Why not use fast vents on all radiators?
No two rooms will have the same heat requirement. There are two ways to adjust the heat provided by a radiator: with the size of the radiator itself, and with the vent. Not much one can do, easily, about the radiator size. That tends to be sort of fixed. But the vent? Ah yes. So to adjust the heating in a room to the use and taste of the occupants, one changes the vent size. Too hot? Try a slower vent. Too cool? Try a faster vent — but only after making sure that the rest of the venting in the building is more or less on.
Or, in short, if you make all the vents the same size and all fast, you will be guaranteed uneven heat.
