Re: New steam boiler - newbie help

One can make their own conclusions from the study posted here years ago but it was arguing that in the case of steam that pick up plus pipe losses significantly greater than 30% were of no benefit but when significantly lower (10%), at least for the configurations and methodologies used in the study, 6deg F recovery time at design temps could be increased.

Re: Possible to wire furnace fan to thermostat controlling a boiler?
After reviewing the Regal furnace (i don't know your model number but this is the standard oil furnace control) and the Navien combi (i don't know your model number but this is the standard typical Navien control) and the Ecobee thermostat (i don't know your model number but this is the standard wiring for many of the Ecobee thermostats.). this is what I have come up with.
There is no need to purchase or add a relay. The Boyertown will need to be powered the entire time you want the thermostat to operate, because the Boyertown Regal is the 24 VAC source for the Ecobee.
If these wiring connections do not look familiar, then I will need the model number of the unfamiliar item, or a picture of the control board on the equipment or thermostat.
Re: Replacing 17 year old oil fired boiler/need help
All great advice, thank you everyone. I would like to remind you of the ascent plus side wall vented oil gas or lp fired combi boiler we offer. Its low mass (3 gallons) and can deliver up to 4 gpm of hot water at 67° rise. We offer this as low as 86k btu's to 123k btu's for oil and 73 k btu's to 135K btu's for gas or lp.
Small footprint no tank, Great efficiency and lower cost.

Re: Mini Split Location
To be fair my design temp is 72F and I run 68F at times.
I've never found it to be too low. With a txv the system has no issues controlling humidity. Not sure with minisplits and their EEVs but id hope it does as good or better than a TXV.
74F is too warm for me and forget 76.
I was thrilled my system was able to achieve 75 when it was 100 outside but I'm much happier with it cooler especially in the bedrooms.
I have a freezestat on my evap just in case but it's never been needed in 8 years so far.
That said... Even in my drafty uninsulated house I'm only at 533sqft per ton.

Re: Mini Split Location
It’s going to be ugly no matter where you put it. A bigger consideration is running the lineset.
Are you sure you don’t need two heads?
I think the ideal spot is right where you show the decoration 'Home'.

Here is a pic of the top of the chimney just after we poured the cap.
Re: Replacing 30 year old Vesta oil boiler….
I wonder if you looked at the System 2000? I believe the Ascent is their lower priced offering in order to compete with the lower cost cast iron boilers with tankless coils. You can get a lower price on a Burnham with a tankless coil for less than the MPO with an indirect. The difference is the control system does not offer the thermal purge features that EK products are known for. That thermal purge along with the much lower water content of the steel boiler, a more efficient design that can not be matched by a cast iron boiler, will end up with the lowest operating cost. And a big plus is that the EK president and some of their tech support frequent this site and offer assistance over and above the other boiler manufacturers. @Roger might even let you know more reasons you might take a second look at EK.
Don't rule out Steel boilers There have been many steel boiler manufacturers that have equipment that have lasted over 50 years on a regular basis, in both commercial and residential situations. I have done maintenance on thousands of different boilers in my 40+ years and can safely say that the EK boilers are one of the easiest boilers to open up for maintenance. And when I did open them up, There was very little that needed to be cleaned.
