Re: Trane dual stage heat but single stage AC control 2 stage AC now? control question
If the fan-only side can be adjusted to give the proper airflow, that side of the equation shouldn't be an issue. I'm not in a position to look up the schematic of that outdoor unit right now, but judging by what @109A_5 posted above, the S1 terminal is an output that forces the indoor unit into the low cool fan speed. I don't know if that means there are other wires going to the outdoor unit, or if the outdoor unit decides to go into high cooling on its own & thus forces the indoor unit into high speed fan (or, more accurately, stops forcing the indoor unit into low speed.)
Re: Which New Analyzer?
I have a TPI unit. Very easy to use and connects to your smart phone via Bluetooth so can emails and save off data
Cost is mid 400s

Re: J-channel mounting block suitable for Prier C-134 series
Use a wooden block cut to the flange with whatever reveal you want and install j channel around it.
Re: Trane dual stage heat but single stage AC control 2 stage AC now? control question
In the manual S1 and SI seem to be the same, however I not sure if that is so. Two S1 modes ? Dip switch SW5-3. Looks like the S1 may be an output from the condenser unit that controls the blower speed by monitoring system conditions or just time. In which case the Y2 from the NEST may confuse things.
Re: Mystery domestic water line
Hi, I saw this on Ebay "Metrotech Model-420 Pipe And Cable Locator Vintage Transmitter/Receiver". It's not expensive. A locator that can be attached to the pipe inside will let you trace the line wherever it goes.

Re: Unrecognized return vent
I believe I may have mentioned this previously.
I worked on a system that had "Kelmac Jr. Retarder" steam traps.
IIRC, the "Retarder" was 3/4" size and the "Jr." was 1/2" size.
The Kelmac valves left in the system were worn out and did not have any special designs for metering. Just a globe valve.
The guts had been removed from all traps.
Most valves changed and supply orifices added.
No return traps or drums left in basement.
System would run on ounces when done with changes.
Re: Radiators getting hot when heating circuit off
One the spring checks is bad for the top floor loop. No isolation valves makes it a PITA, but not too much... unless there's antifreeze in the system. Now is the time to replace air eliminators as well if needed.

copper pipe and vibration
Hi all;
I have a 50 year old copper pipe embedded in cement hydronic system and I have never seen
an answer to my question. Would the vibration from a washer or dryer (sitting on hydronic floor system) affect my old pipes? So far I only have to make up water once every 9-12 months and very little at that. I am new to this type of heat (always had forced air) and several plumbers said not to worry your pipes will fail from corrosion before they fail from vibration.
Nice to know…but does anyone have an opinion? I'm probably overcautious but I hate to put ANY unnecesary stress on my copper hydronic system if I dont have to. I checked prior posts but could not find any on this subject. Thanks in advance from a newbie!
Re: KBR 42 3 Bosch Greenstar
it's the first thing that comes up googling that error code, no flame detected on ignition. For any failed ignition on modern condensing boilers the procedure is relatively the same. Clean and check burner/heat exchanger, clean/replace electrodes, check gas supply and combustion analysis to correct any underlying issues. Fouled electrodes are typically a symptom not a cause!.
Once the new parts are installed and heat exchanger cleaned I would want to set up the burner properly. gas pressure, gas valve adjustment, check for flue recirc etc. those parts will foul up over time, but in my opinion if its happening before the 5 year point I would be looking into why.
