Re: best acrylic tub
americast is a steel tub with plastic to keep it stable never been a fan of it. i always put something under to support it usally strucolite
Re: Finding replacement baseboard metal components
i once made wooden replacements for those covers after a contractor made off with the parts from our basement. Any metal replacements seemed crazy expensive at the time and probably weren’t going to fit right.
I was afraid they would warp out of shape but held up at least until we sold that house 5 years down the road. Hope they’re still doing ok.
That may not help you but its an idea if you’re stuck.
Re: Annual Tuneup, now horrible burning smell
I'll go with the tool. And you need to get your new man out there to find it and fix it.
Re: Outdoor reset
I suspect it (the Tekmar 070) is very similar to the original unit that @EdTheHeaterMan suggested. The thermistors themselves come is various shapes and sizes (the outer housing of the actual thermistor its self). For outdoor reset functionality the thermistor has to be outside and out of the elements so the thermistor is put in a weather resistant plastic housing for protection.
A 10K (10,000) Ohm thermistor can have different curves as the temperature changes. Which is where the resistance is at a specific temperature. The 10 K reference resistance is only one point on the curve and it is usually at 25 degree Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit. I believe the Beta = 3892 (Tekmar) or the Type-2 (Siemens QAC2030) defines which graph shows the temperature plot and maybe other characteristics of the thermistor. I suspect they are very similar.
Tekmar 070
" Beta = 3892 is the B-constant of an NTC thermistor. (NTC = Negative Temperature Coefficient) "
" A thermistor "Type-2" is a classification for a thermistor, often with a 10K resistance at 25°C, that has a specific non-linear resistance-temperature curve, designed for use in particular building automation systems and other applications where its unique curve provides accurate temperature readings within its defined operating range. "
So what I get out of this is, "Type-2" is a term used building automation systems industry.
Beta or B-constant is more within the thermistor manufacturing industry.
It would not surprise me that in the -10 degrees Fahrenheit to 68 degrees Fahrenheit range the resistance of these two units would track very close to each other.
Re: Outside Drainage: PVC best pipe direction male spigot into female bell--in direction of water flow?
it is supposed to be bedded in clean sand. it is quite flexible, not cementing the joints just means it can come apart if it moves enough.
Re: Ladder standoffs for roofs
Most mfrs. began adding metal 'C'-shaped retainers at the tip of the bed, which preclude you from installing the rung insertion-type before raising to the final height. Ladders without these clips allow you to install the standoffs at the 3rd and 4th rungs retracted, raise the ladder into position then extend the fly section as needed, set and adjust for pitch.
BTW, to get the 75.5 degree angle required by OSHA, put your toes at the heels of the ladder then extend you arms straight out level. If you can grasp a rung,( or be inline with the rungs) you are at the proper pitch. This is an old fire dept. trick. However, with stabilizers, you extend the ladder, rest the stabilizer on the roof off the gutter, then adjust the bed to the proper pitch. Once you do it a few times its not hard.
Another FD trick is to use the building, curb, or flower bed brick lining to foot the ladder if raising by yourself.
My favorite method of raising an extension ladder is the beam raise. Again, FD training for raising in an alley or narrow space, such as btw close buildings, avoiding tree branches or power lines, etc. You catch the heel of one beam, walk it up, then spin it around flat in position.
If working within 10LF of an energized Service Entrance cable to a building, you must notify the utility so they can wrap it or other alternatives.
Re: Type K copper pipe
That main thing with plastic is that it be NSF approved. If it is — it's pretty free of anything leaching out of it. Polyethylene — which is what you'd be using — hasn't much of anything to leach anyway.
Copper. depending on the pH of the water, will leach varying amounts of copper into your water. Is this a problem? Not that I know of from a health standpoiint.

Will I have to drain my whole heating system?
YES!
Re: Insulation for steam pipes in basement
1"wall fiberglass and PVC fitting covers. Buy the thumbtacks with the pvc covers. Thumbtacks have little barbs to hold them in place skip the tape it makes a mess.
Trick: put the thumbtacks in the PVC fitting before you put the fitting on the pipe
Re: Do Energy Kinetics Ascent Boilers require special Thermostats?
Good morning,
The Energy Kinetics Ascent boiler can be controlled by a simple day night programable thermostat or with a Wi-Fi thermostat. Whichever suits you. We do not need special communicating thermostats.
