Re: What type (part #) of HONEYWELL zone valve do I have? They are 25 years old.
What is the problem or issue ?

Re: Indoor wood boiler plumbing
You should plan on filling the fire box volume half full of standard fire brick up to the flue breech. This creates a huge amount of thermal mass for you, and it radiates the heat back into the fire box and boiler walls slowly and at the same time it creates a hotter fire and much less smoke/unburned fuel lost up the chimney. I did this with my old hand fed wood and coal boiler and I will tell you it works.

You Said,
"I'd love to check out your Euro Boiler Study sources, but I can't find a link to the full study."
Let me dig through some hard drives. I have the fifty page summary of that report somewhere.
Re: Burner Issue CLUELESS at this point
does the tiger loop have a vacuum gauge if so i have seen them produce vacuum leaks remove and put a plug in it . As other have stated electrodes gapped properly . Has the burners oil pressure been checked ,turbulator or head cleaned ? Personally i would re check wiring cad cell and then attach a pressure gauge to the jet line and ensure that the pump is operating at the correct pressure and then last but not least check for a steady stream of fuel from the jet line . Just wondering was the tiger loop always there or was it installed recently . Also if the tiger loop was just installed i would re check the connection to ensure it was properly piped . Are all your oil connected using flare fitting as compression fitting should not be used . If stainless steel flex lines where used be sure that aside from properly piped that the connection are tight . Has anyone check your pump strainer and ensure that the cover on the pump is properly tightened . Has a vacuum test been done to show if you have a oil line blocked ,have you blown back and hand pumped oil to the filter ?
Personally even though i ve have been on the 24 /7 end of working for a oil company and doing service i still to this day recommend to oil customers to use only a full service oil co who does annual cleaning and offers a service agreement being if you call me later nite cause your boiler is not working and it needs a cleaning you will be paying through the nose . As good as and as easy as it looks it ain't so easy if ya aint doing it for a living and just remember every hit of the cad cell relay just doses the cast w a little more oil till boom and some one w experience either has to rub her down w cat liter or light a camel cigarette and light her off and burn the oil out of the boiler ,i can say that thats not something you would like to experience being it stinks and usually loads the basement w some real stink but hey if your happy being cold and trying to fix it yourself maybe after a week or so in in the cold playing mech you will come to your senses and call some one who strictly deal w oil burners .Usually this is not some thing for plumbers /hvac guy who may install but do not have the service experience w oil burner it may seem trail and error in getting them to repair properly w out replace unnecessary parts . Most oil burner guys if familiar w the burner will have no issue repairing ,unless you have oil tank or oil line issues which will of course need to be addressed . .
Take it all w a grain of salt
peace and good luck clammy

Re: Excited about Boiler Design
Don't hack up your joists. I would do as you say and core the 3" through the foundation wall. More work to dig outside, but better to do it right the first time.

Re: Burner Issue CLUELESS at this point
Really sounds like the fuel lines are reversed. Was it always a two pipe fuel system? Was the bypass plug installed? Does the pump have a cut off valve or a fuel solenoid valve?

Re: Can I install a regular thermostat on a Buderus GB142?
YES…. That is what is in my homes in NJ. Radiant Floor Heat with wall thermostats.
Re: Skimming a new boiler - Frequency?
This is JMHO but skimming without washing soda to me is like putting clothes in a washing machine without any soap and expecting things to come out clean.
Re: Rheem Hybrid water heater changing operating modes on its own.
I've tried to explain this in the past, and people seem to purposely refuse to think about what I say, but I'll try it again. It doesn’t cool off your basement or dry it out in any measurable way. This is why I leave my basement windows cracked open a smidge all winter. That doesn't cool off my basement in any measurable way either.
I should probably get better at measuring though.
Your basement is losing a lot of heat. Every wall, every window, is losing a lot of heat. Whether you have a heat pump down there or not, a lot of heat is leaving. Now what happens is the heat pump grabs some of that heat, which was going to be lost anyway, and puts it into its tank.
And by the way, your atmospheric water heater is pulling $h!t-tons of heat right up the flue 24/7 which you can close off if you exchange it for a heat pump water heater, but no one seems to remember that.
Re: Air to Water Heatpump scenario for my abode.
OK, I updated it to use Cleveland-Hopkins as the weather station. Looks very similar to Boston. Sheet is at:
I didn't change anything else. Let me know if there are any assumptions that aren't right.
