Re: Home Boiler System - Need help sizing boiler circ pump
If that Alpha was doing the job, the 0026E should be more than capable. Is it possible that the auto adapt function has slowed the flow to a point that it's causing trouble? This has been an issue with the Alpha but I have no personal experience with the 0026E performance. Perhaps there is an airlock in some of the loops after the circ swap which is causing the strange performance?
Re: Home Boiler System - Need help sizing boiler circ pump
thermal equilibrium is when the heat emitter is taking the full output of the boiler
Supply and return temperature will be stable at that point, not moving up or down
The actual output of that boiler mihht be around 93,000 btu/ hr. So all you need to circulate is 9, 10 or so gpm. Did the previous circulator do okay? If so no need to upsize
If the new larger circ is moving the flow faster the temperature difference will be smaller between supply and return
What we don’t know is what is controlling the boiler operating temperature? ODR outdoor reset or a fixed setpoint!

Re: Should I be worried about what I am observing and hearing (radiant heat install in process)?
The smaller boiler would have been adequate, a lower turndown would be helpful also. There are probably control options to derate the boiler firing if you notice short cycling, that is the boiler running less than 10 minutes, often.
But the larger boiler was probably chosen based on your hot water needs, it is a Combi correct? The smaller one would give you a bit over 2 gpm of hot water. Probably 3 or more with the model you have. Is the hot water production adequate for your needs? I have gotten by just fine with 120 combis.
The UltraFin will be an easier install, and would cost you a higher operating temperature. You may get enough output from it to still run the boiler in condensing mode. Check the Ultra Fin output charts.
Your load loads in that mild climate give you options to have a workable system.
I'd use a foam type, radiant friendly closet bowl seal to be safe. Wires are not an issue. nails may be if the tube can rub on them.

Re: Boiler sight glass water condition
The only thing I am aware of was that I had very insufficient main venting for the front of the house and I built an antler to somewhat equalize the 5° disparity from the back to front. It's down to 2° now and the radiators in the front get fully hot now
Here's a few pics of the boiler room, and right behind the back wall is the rear room of the house, so the boiler is situated close to the back. 2nd pic, top left (it's dark), you can see the main vent that's for the much shorter run for the rear of the house.
Idk what size/kind of vent that is
Re: Need help balancing a single pipe steam system in Queens, NY
People have died, from removed air vents. The steam can displace the air
Re: Mod/con boiler - is exhaust vent noisy?
I can't speak for the IBC, but I install a lot of Nobles (the US version of the Epic) and the intake is crazy loud compared to anything else I've been around. You definitely don't want to draw room air if the Epic is on your list. Great boiler, just makes more noise than most. I'm not talking lawn mower noisy, but it's definitely noticeable. Looks like you have plenty of space to get piping to your chimney though, I'd definitely go that route before terminating near your sitting area.
Re: Need help balancing a single pipe steam system in Queens, NY
You can't leave the radiator open without a vent. On a long boiler run, steam will reach the location of the vent and pass right into the room resulting in extreme danger to the tenant………………especially if a child is near the vent at the time (similar height).
Re: What are those on my heating furnace?
Yes, #1 is your "makeup water" inlet valve, which is closed.
But before you do anything else, find a tire pressure gauge and check the air pressure in the gray expansion tank just above the boiler. Use a tire pressure gauge and take the cap off the air valve on the end of the tank. The air pressure may be 5 psi, same as the pressure gauge. (Or the boiler pressure gauge may be broken, so the 5 psi may or may not be accurate.) In either case, you do need 15 psi for a 3 story house. So get your bicycle pump or small tire inflator and pump the tank up to 15 psi. Once you've done that, you're ready for the next step.
Re: Building drain / sewer pipe. Who owns it in NJ?
it became available to me a year ago for $5/mo. I bought it. I wouldn't for 28 because I'm on a quiet street but if it was under a highway, I would. It isn't just the length, it is also the depth below the road.
Re: Re-purposing Monoflo Branch for Radiant Floor Heat
I would not do it that way either. The radiant responds totally different than the exisiting system.
The radiant will want to run longer to give a more slow and gentle heat into the space. Nobody ever asked for radiant heating, they all wanted warmer floors.
Separate it out as another zone to get what you want
