Re: Can bucket and F&T traps be mounted too low? Pics attached.
I am wondering if there had been a wet return that went bad or was in the way. Some genius may have said "Why use the wet return when there is a dry return right there?". If the dry return is lower then the steam main then I agree with just a simple water leg, Please use crosses at the bottom for clean out later.Charlie, thanks for the insight. The dry returns are lower than than the steam mains. I will put unions on the loops along with a tee/ drain port so they can be removed and flushed annually.
Re: Where's my steam traps??...and other questions
If your replacing boiler, and if you can get to all the radiators. Switch it over to hot water run pex tubing to each radiator.
This way each radiator can be zone, have multi temp threw out the house. System would be quiet, efficient and comfortable.

Re: issue with Bryant three wire pilot
yes it is wired right, the plug will only fit one way. The nc contacts energize the spark box. After pilot is established the pilot heats up to the point where the nc contacts open de energizing the spark box, and the no contacts on the pilot close energizing the main gas valve. All that works when the pilot is manually lit with a match. It would not work when manually lit, if it was wired wrong.

Re: Took a break from steam boilers today
Looks like you missed the snow that we got down here. After the crane left at about 9:00 it started snowing hard for the rest of the day. We made the mistake of going to scrap yard first only to come back and find the roof and my tools covered in about 2” of snow. Yeah I was cold and wet by the end of my day.

Re: Demonstrating the PONMIPC...
My grandpa did it this way, and my dad did it this way, and by golly, I'm going to continue to do it this way. "Jeez, your family has been doing it WRONG for 3 generations! Congratulations!" Nothing like a family legacy :-)

@ChrisJ : Time for your funny tankless water heater video!
Re: PVC Venting on boilers again!
The fact, that label exists at all should tell you something. It's not a warning label about using PVC in a DWV system. Why would they produce that? Because they are manufacturing to ASTM standards, and those standards do not have the requirements for plastic pipe and fittings intended to vent flue gases.
With that disclaimer included on the label, I don't know how you can take comfort in the fact you followed manufacturers instructions and used it anyway? It's not an untruth, but the half-truth you're operating on is unacceptable.
