Re: Dunkirk XEB - the good, the bad, the ugly
The output on the boiler you listed is 94k, 94,000/1900=49.47They measured all of the rooms, length x width x height. They measured all of the heating units (length), they measured all of the windows and doors. They asked me about the insulation in the house, (R-30 in ceilings and crawlspaces above heated rooms; R-19 walls; R-11 in walls between rooms.
How did they do the heat loss? To do the heat loss they need to measure all the rooms and look at windows, doors, insulation, basically as much of the house construction as they can.
Also, in speaking with the representative from Dunkirk, he informed me the unit is designed for houses where the maximum heat needed is 112 BTU/h and the minimum is 20 BTU/h and that the amount of heat released is determined by the thermostat. He rejected the statement that it was oversized for a 1900 sq. foot house, saying that as long as it was not required to provide more than 112 BTU/h for any prolonged period, it was fine for installation.
Re: Leaking Burnham V84 Steam Boiler
If you've got gas in the area you'd be a fool to go with oil. It's still more expensive than gas and comes with a whole boat load of pain in the butt.

This is the correct way to derate an appliance. Tried to upload a picture i guess it didnt work. The last post is almost 3 years old?
You aced your gas test? Which gas.......</blockquote
The same Test I took for Gasfitter Class A and B in Canada. I had to make a account to post my input on your comment of others.
I also agree with other, that manufactures has their own procedures on de-rating an appliance or caloric value of a gas for high altitude, but on my provincial and my Red seal test, direland answer is the correct one.

Re: Right or repipe it
Yes it was! When I first looked at it, I started to say the same things that were said by others. Then I decided this had to be a trick question, of some kind so I decided to wait and see what others had to say. LOL Just goes to show there's more than one way to do things, conventional or not, if they work properly, that's the goal state. You mean like, how bullhead tees in a main work properly 99% of the time?

Re: Is furnacecompare.com a reliable source for information for gas boilers?
@Steamhead while that is a great boiler with the current rebates it would not be cost competitive. I will be recommending a fire tube style stainless steel boiler with 10:1 turn down. Most likely, I have to see the job first.
Re: New Boiler HTP UFT080
There is no need for a transition pipe with this boiler. We did have one issue with this boiler during freezing rain. As it is a 10 to 1, there is insufficient combustion gas velocity to melt the ice on the supplied grill when operating on low fire. We had to cut some of the grill.

Re: Weil-McLain Gas Fried Water Boiler Rusted Out in 3 years
It doesn't sound like someone else is going to solve this for you (or they would have already). This is a very obvious water side issue.
I would either find a new contractor to test the water or have it tested yourself.
