Best Of
100+ Year Old Steam Boiler
My system has always worked well. May not be the most efficient, but it has served us well for at least through this heat season. I cleaned out the control and valve box recently and may have disrupted the thermocouple. The unit will not light when the thermostat calls for heat. I can jump the system on the second and 4th terminal and it will light and turn off when it reaches the setting on the thermostat. It is very difficult to access the system from the valve box. Do I need to remove the fire brick to gain access? Also, I noticed the brick has been patched in the past, where can I get another if this one falls apart?. Thanks.

Re: Would you hire this Spammer to fix/replace your Boiler?
Typical marketing designed ad, male model with tool props. It doesn’t tell the story of all the techs, at the company, from my experience.
The best hydronics guy in the area could work for that company. Although that may not be him😂
Clean, sober, on time is what the consumer wants, that pic appeals to most homeowners. The skill set of the actual tech that shows up at your door is the biggest crap shoot.

Re: Radiator feed and return on same side (feed on top) (return on bottom)
You're fine with the 1/2 pex . with what you've described 1 gpm will be more than adequate to heat the space . You should always do a heat loss though and NEVER again consult with Radiant Reck .

Re: The Rise and Fall of Radiator Foundries: A Two Century Journey to Casting Radiators for Today
I think this is fantastic. I live a few blocks from the location of the former National Radiator Co. In Johnstown Pa.
I've also worked in the plumbing and heating industry here in town and have seen my share of radiators.
Also just fantastic seeing manufacturers still at it! Kudos!

Re: Electric hot water source for radiant floors and domestic hot water
I understand that you are trying to satisfy your DHW needs, but even if you come up short, you have options. Your biggest DHW load will be mornings or evenings, so low flow shower heads, shower scheduling (some shower in the morning, some in the evening), short showers.
I installed a solenoid valve on the hot water line to the shower when my kids were young. Attached a timer which would turn on once water flow was detected. After 10 minutes, the timer would energize the solenoid.
Re: Radiator feed and return on same side (feed on top) (return on bottom)
I would feed them the way they were originally fed or diagonally. I would not go bottom bottom. The pipe size you need is dependent on the size of the heat output you need for the room. Have you done a heat loss?
