Re: another copper press fitting peeve: street female adapters
For commercial repairs I think the hot work permit process is driving service people to press options.

Re: Need Steam Specialist in Portland, Maine
Who installed it? Not that old. Piping doesn't look horrible from what I can see.
Someone here may know someone in your area. Portland is a large city there ought to be someone. Maybe check with some P & H supply houses to see if they know someone who knows steam. Steam Experts are dwindling. Maybe @New England SteamWorks
Re: Bad homeowner steam advise= $$$$$
The pressuretrol got a workout, sure, but it stops the burners
There is no way 90% of all the produced heat went up the flue
Anyway we can all be sad about the house going down but I don’t see the boiler being responsible. Sorry for the disruption
Re: Bad homeowner steam advise= $$$$$
i mean like 2 years of that 20k would have paid someone to put in appropriately sized emitters and fix up the boiler to bring the heating cost down to the coupe k that it should be.
Horse Barn Radiant Heat
Just got asked to bid a horse barn project using radiant heat. The customer was looking for some direction on if the stalls get radiant under them. My initial thought would be no because of bedding or stall mats would insulate the floor in that area. Plus ammonia issues in the stalls. I know the barns we have kept our horse at has compacted dirt floors in the stalls with bedding and no concrete. I am planing on the aisle way, wash stall, tack room, etc. Has anyone done a project similar to this?
Re: Horse Barn Radiant Heat
i think if yo heated the stalls you would only want the water to be something like room temp, if you heated it enough to provide heating you would turn it in to an incubator.
Re: Air purging with poorly placed coin vents
That section on baseboard sounds all wrong . It should be on its own zone . Would it be fair to say it does not work well when its bleed ?

Re: Advice for replacing a Bell & Gossett 2-1/2" with a Grundfos
If the vibration is from the 60hz line frequency (very likely since it is a big single phase motor), putting the pipes on soft mounts won't help. To isolate the pump you need a length of flex hose before and after the pump with the pump itself hard mounted to the concrete. I had similar issue with a smaller pump and 4' of pex on either side cured it.
Modcon generally means that pump is running 24/7, on a such a big pump the electricity costs are not small. Usually an ECM pump will be about 1/2 the cost to operate with typical ROI in a couple of years. If you are replacing it, I would go for ECM just for that.
The only thing to watch is if is an older system with a lot of sludge, you need a magnetic separator before the pump. The big bonus in your case with ECM pump is they are WAY quieter and free of usual 60hz hum.
Also try to mount the new pump with a horizontal shaft. Puts less load on the seals and generally bad idea to put potential leak points above electrical wiring.

Re: Marbles and Ghosts
Tank just needed to be drained and water level/air cushion reset and problem would have been solved.
