Re: Am I blind? Not seeing the gas shut-off valve.
No gauge in the boiler. That is the one provided by NTI. There are digital readouts of all the parameters but that does not qualify as the gauge required by code. So, you get that piece of junk to pass inspection. I don't believe it is necessary if you know how to work the menu of the control. But not all customers are that well versed in reading the 100+ page manual to get to the menu that tells you the way to get that info. the pressure reading from the electronic menu may not stay there and drop to a default menu after several minutes of no input to the control. The age of modern computers that make out life easier. Don't you love the 21st Century?
Re: Hot Water Boiler Rattling at Start of Heating Season
That's what's so frustrating. I played the video for one of their techs the second time they were here, and that's when he said it might be the solenoid in the regulator rattling, but he wasn't sure and said wait until something breaks. At this point I'm ready to use a different company just to get it resolved.
Re: New Energy Kinetics Boiler: Was Kettling, Now its a Water Hammer Issue
We still need to check it. In the first two pics above, we can see a nozzle container sitting on top of the boiler. The end cap on it is blue- which is the color Delavan used for solid nozzles. Hollow nozzle containers have red end caps.
Re: Very Old Two Pipe Radiator
Is there a name on the base? If it's a Bundy, it would be "A.A. Griffing".
Re: Purging 7 Zones Dual Boiler Setup
The Caleffi fill valve will allow 5 gpm to flow, do 1 zone at a time, you have isolation valve and purge valves. That is the only valve you need to turn off.
Wow! with a spirovent on each loop, air should be eliminated within hours if you have any flow at all in the zones.

Re: Steam sight glass
True but the supply should not be coming off the side of the header, it needs to come out the top
Re: Combustion Analyzer Calibration
Testo has had some bad units in the past. I would make them replace it with a new one. I think that would be less expensive than the bad press on the media.
Your unit is bad!
Re: Why does one of my steam radiators only come on on high and bang loudly
Just from what I'm reading I would suspect that there is a belly in the piping leading to that radiator and that belly is full of water, hence the hissing and sucking of air at the vent. You could try lifting the radiator up on some blocks to remove the belly. Or see if you can identify any improperly pitched pipes in the cellar.
Pictures of the radiator from a few feet away would help us.

Re: 2 Firomatic Valves
It would be a real shame to replace that Thermopride with a propane furnace. Thermopride furnaces are as high quality as you can get. That furnace could easily outlast most gas furnaces made today.
Re: Shopping for new mod/con, set me straight!
Lochinvar and probably others have adjustments to lessen cycling
Anti Cycling and Step Fire for example. Lock the firing rate to the design load, then use other functions if needed
