Re: ? actual difference between hot water heaters from supplyhouses and big box stores
A co worker told me years ago he was talking to a DeWalt rep who told him the HD stuff had plastic gears and was not the same as you could by elsewhere.
Don't know it it is true.
I suspect some MFG dial it down cheaper to sell to HD
and I think others sell there standard products to HD if the price is right.
Re: Flow direction - baseboard heating
Hiring a $50/hr plumber will get you exactly what you pay for (an unlicensed handyman) good luck!
Re: Cast iron radiator output tables are wrong?
Does the burner ever reach the limit and shut off while the thermostat is calling for heat. The Ecobee run time is for the circulator pump run time, it may not be for the burner run time if the burner cycles at 160° off of the high limit.
Re: Battle of the thermostat: The science behind your central heating arguments
I strongly recommend taking the numbers off thermostats and then telling people to set them to where they are comfortable…
Re: Cast iron radiator output tables are wrong?
@DCContrarian and I had the same idea. I wonder if he is as smart as me?🤪
Re: need advice on scary steam boiler - no water in sight glass, running high pressure
It looks rough but if it isn't leaking someone that knows what they are doing can probably clean it and get it working properly.

Re: need advice on scary steam boiler - no water in sight glass, running high pressure
I think those vents are sold as steam or hot water but they really are hot water only. They have a little celluose element that is supposed to close them when they get wet.

Re: Flow direction - baseboard heating
You are not providing adequate representation of this installation. The photo and your drawings are woefully inadequate for a proper diagnostic by those of us on the forum. Provide some more anecdotal operational history of this installation as well. It should be stated right off the bat that this Rinnai on-demand water heater is the wrong machine for this purpose. Has it ever been flushed? There don't seem to be any temperature or pressure gauges. Provide an electrical (control) schematic of the installation. How big is the slab (sq.ft)?
Re: Flow direction - baseboard heating
Rinnai DOES make good boilers. Get the right one of the right size. Have it installed correctly. And have all of the necessary devices for a proper hydronic radiant floor installation. What's not to love?
Re: Boiler acting up again
Your vent may be blocked, or the heat exchanger may have carbon building up in between the sections. This is something that you don't want to mess with. If the flame is burning poorly and the exhaust is not leaving the building, that is NOT GOOD
It is time to call a professional that is familiar with the combustion process and how to locate problems with the combustion process.
