Re: Tempstar furnace no heat.
Make sure the gas is turned on.
I would then check for 24 volts at the PV (pilot valve) terminals on the gas valve and also the PV terminals on the ignition control module on the right hand wall in your picture.
Re: Unico potable water furnace, expansion tank pressure
That looks like you have 70 PSI water pressure on your system. DO NOT set the air pressure in the tank to 15 PSI. You may as well not connect the tank at all. If you want the tank to do the job it was intended to do, set that air pressure WITH THE TANK NOT CONNECTED TO THE SYSTEM to 65 -70 PSI air pressure.
If the tank is connected to the water pressure in the system, the water pressure in the system will compress whatever air is in that tank to 70 PSI. Don't measure the tank air pressure with water pressure on the other side of the tank.
Re: House is Overheating
you said new thermostats,
like new since the heat ran last?
or were the thermostats in place last heating season?
Re: Dirty hot water, boiler overfilled, related?
Sounds like the indirect coil is leaking.
What I would do is mark the boiler water level with a sharpie and drain and shut off the indirect tank before you go to bed.
In the morning the boiler water should not have moved, or it could drop a little as it could be leaking back through the indirect as the indirect now has no pressure on it.
Re: “Polished” cast iron radiator finish
Cast iron is very brittle and can not be polished .. Powder coating for the polished look is your best bet .

Re: AO Smith Gas Water Heater Warranty Replacement
Yeah i just can't wrap my head around charging a handling fee to replace a water heater under warranty when you sold the original equipment, it's just not customer friendly at all. seems so clear that 90 was leaking, just fix it and keep the customer happy, clearly an install error.
Re: Slant fin oil boiler
Doubt that it is something major. It maybe they just need an adjustment. Since you are almost due for service in November why not have it done sooner. Tell your service provider so they are aware of the issue.
Re: Combustion air for cast iron boiler
my understanding was that if it had overhead door that a vehicle could be stored inside, a flame needed to be elevated 18”
We did this with water heaters in garages or with attached rooms until the flame protected style water heaters became available
No harm in checking with the current codes in that area. Stay safe.

Re: House is Overheating
I believe that what you’re calling “diverter valves” are actually zone valves.
The aquastat does not control these, the thermostats do, and their end switches turn on the pump control and that turns on the boiler.
Some better pics from further back that encompass the boiler, its near piping and controls may be more helpful, but diagnosing a control issue requires a multi meter and the knowledge of how to use it.

Re: Top Ten Hydronic Issues & Fixes
Hi Ray, This looks (sounds) like the outline for a book on troubleshooting hydronics! 😎
