Re: Ruud Monel Water Heater
i think that design became obsolete by the late 50's, i think it is more like 70-75.
Re: Black particles in water: Navien tankless water heater to blame?
You need to do the necessary research to determine that the problem is an inherent problem in the unit and identify the problem, and not the result of any of a host of other causes. It's called proof — and they aren't going to do it for you.
Re: My three worst jobs sites. What are yours?
Aw c'mn guys. Sewage treatment plants aren't bad. I've worked several in my day, and first place you get used to the smell. Second place, personal hygiene is number one. Never washed my hands as often again. Third place, if the operator is any good at all, the place is really pretty clean… and we were really big on confined space protocols.
Oh just one more thing. Don't go for a swim…
Re: Piping from scratch
Scrap the system and run new panel radiators . I would run a home run system (3/8" works here).

Re: Piping from scratch
panel radiators will be less expensive, cast iron radiators will be more comfortable. it is up to the preference of the owner.
Re: Oil Water Heater for Disabled Couple on Long Island
you can spend an extra $50/year on hot water for quite a while before you make up the cost difference between an electric and oil water heater, especially when you add in annual oil burner maintenance.
Re: Navien combi
typically the boiler is filled and little if any water gets added
If you have water that is way out if the spec that Navian suggests,
fill the boiler thru one of these
I also like to add a conditioner to the filtered water
I would not use softened water to fill the boiler!

Re: Steam device to be identified
I’m with Steamhead: boiler-return trap. Do you have photos of a radiator? Close-up of the supply and return sides would be helpful. And welcome!
